My gorgeous editor leaves me these little sidebar comments, which I love to discover. She's down for some Dark Academia Why Choose, and safe to say she ate it up with the big spoon! 🥄🌿🪾🍂🍀

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!!!!! (It's free on KU)

Thank you to @theauthorsarchive_ for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Holy. Freakin’. Wow. This book came in swinging and did not let up. I’ve never read @authork.j.johnson before, but if her other works are anything like Unholy Vows... then just go ahead and sign me up for every twisted ride she's got!

At the center of this dark, intoxicating story is Malachi O’Connor—Father Malachi. Yes, you read that right. He wears the collar and preaches the good word by day... but by night, he gives in to the darkness clawing inside him. He hunts the wicked, not just spiritually, but physically. Is he psychotic? Absolutely. But he owns it. And somehow, you’ll find yourself craving his kind of redemption.

Enter Layla Monroe, a woman just trying to make sense of her life and find a sliver of peace after trauma. She walks into the confessional, at the request of her sister, expecting absolution and instead stumbles into a seduction that’s anything but holy. One confession unlocks a twisted chain of obsession, lust, and a blood-stained path neither of them can walk away from.

This story isn’t just spicy, it’s scorching, and I mean sweat-dripping, breath-stealing levels of spice. But the spice is layered with intense psychological suspense, stalking, murder mysteries, and not one, but two jaw-dropping plot twists that made me pause and yell “NO WAY” out loud. Ok, so I may have guessed one, the but the other one I definitely did not expect.

Think: Dexter meets dark romance… in a confessional booth...with no sense of boundaries.

Yes, it's that dark. Please read the trigger warnings carefully.

If you’re into villains you can’t help but lust after, morally gray characters who walk the line (and sometimes leap over it), and intense dark thrillers that fuse the sacred with the sinful, Unholy Vows is for you. I could not put this book down.

K.J. Johnson… welcome to my auto-buy list.

I received an eARC of Unholy Vows thanks to The Authors Archive and K. J. Johnson. These opinions are my own.

Dark. Darker. Darkest.

Our main man is as morally black as it gets but our FMC maybe kinda likes it…?

Your triggers need to check their triggers with this one but someway somehow there becomes an endearment to our MMC.

This is spicy and taboo but the story is a great one of retribution and revenge!

Check this out if you dare 9/20/25!!

✨️ ARC Review ✨️

"𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆."

This book had me hooked from start to finish. I didn't realise this is actually a sequel since it was written in a way that made it easy to understand the events that happened beforehand. It was advertised as an Orpheus and Eurydice retelling which definitely showed throughout the storyline and gripped me right from the beginning.

There was a nice balance between dark fantasy, yearning romance, and banter amongst friends.

Highly recommended for fans of Hadestown, K-Pop Demon Hunters, and The Lord of the Rings.

Please read the author's list of trigger warnings beforehand (and perhaps check out the first book too but I honestly had no problem).

Thank you to @c.morris.author and @theauthorsarchive_ for this ARC read!

We Were Men Once is out September 30th.

✨️ ARC Review ✨️

"𝘏𝘰𝘱𝘦. 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳."

This was a beautiful book that had me feeling all sorts of emotions. The stories alternates between Nell's personal journey and that of other characters she meets.

Nell knows when and how others will meet their end, and this provides us with a raw and emotional look into the human condition, hope, love, and connection. It is a reminder to appreciate the time we have with our loved ones to the fullest.

Highly recommended for those who loved "The Fault in Our Stars."

Please read the author's list of trigger warnings before proceeding.

Thank you to @theauthorsarchive_ and @jessfullerauthor for this ARC opportunity ❤️

Fragments of You follows Nell, a young woman with a secret who ends up facing the big C, and her journey within that space.

I finished this book a few days ago and had to take a beat to fully digest it. Nell and Scarlet's stories shattered me completely, but in the most beautiful way. It is so very well written, the different point of views just added that special touch, in my opinion.
You can tell when an author has put their heart and soul into a book, and Jess has definitely done so here.

5 ⭐ read, I highly recommend!

✨ Book Review ✨

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

What a brilliant debut!

The story follows Della, who is trying to escape the trauma of her past. She returns to her hometown to pursue her dream of owning a flower shop, hopeful for a fresh start. But after the death of a friend, ominous messages, and strange memory lapses, things quickly spiral and Della is thrown into a whirlwind of psychological turmoil.

The line between reality and insanity is blurred beautifully, and I was constantly questioning what was real and who I could trust. I adored the subtle clues sprinkled throughout and tried SO hard to connect the dots, but I was completely wrong. That ending had my jaw on the floor!

I loved the sapphic romantic subplot, it felt genuine and brought a touch of warmth to balance out the intensity of the plot.

This book explores some heavy topics, including mental health, childhood trauma, and addiction, but it handles them with incredible care. The writing itself is absolutely gorgeous. It’s complex and immersive, yet still easy to read.

Thank you to The Author’s Archive for the ARC! I can’t wait to see what Gabi writes next 🖤
