Where you belong. The Barstow School provides sound scholarship and symmetrical development to mind, body and character since 1884. Preschool-grade 12

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Since early September, @thebarstowschool sixth graders have been exploring the environmental impact of waste. They read “Trash” by Andy Mulligan, practiced research skills, learned about types of waste and visited a landfill to see what happens to items after we throw them away.

Working in groups at IDEA Space, students came up with creative solutions to reduce waste in our community, then built product prototypes in the Fabrication Workshop. From playground equipment made with recycled materials to pet beds constructed from discarded clothing and devices designed to keep plastic out of waterways, these projects offer innovative waste management solutions.

Students display and demonstrate their work for families, faculty, and waste management & sustainability experts at an integrated learning showcase on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Missouri Milestones has been updated to include two new Girls Volleyball members. What was nice for Missouri Milestones was that I was the announcer at the table at last night's match when these two ladies were recognized by their school.

Lia Levin, a senior at Barstow who is headed to the courts of McKendree University, has surpassed 1,000 digs in her career as a Knight.

Adele Muir, who is also a senior at Barstow, has surpassed 1,000 assists in her career at Barstow.

We look forward to updating those entries with final career numbers. See Lia and Adele, and all of the other qualifying Missouri athletes, at http://MissouriMIlestones.com

Last weekend, Variety KC teamed up with the incredible Barstow School Robotics Team for our annual Go Baby Go event, and the smiles said it all. 🚗✨

Through Go Baby Go, toy ride-on cars are adapted with things like push buttons instead of foot pedals and custom seat supports, so kids with disabilities can explore, play, and keep up with their friends on their own. For many of our young drivers, it’s their very first taste of independence. ❤️

A huge thank you to the Barstow students who brought their engineering skills and big hearts, and to every family who joined us. You made inclusion happen, one set of wheels at a time. 💫🙌

Some kids with mobility challenges are missing out on playing with peers and siblings.

Thanks to a partnership between @variety_kc and @thebarstowschool’s robotics team @frcteam1939, seven Kansas City toddlers received modified ride-on cars to give them more independence and a new chance to play with others.
