Sugar-free is a marketing term not a health one. That’s what you need to know. It doesn’t tell you what you need to make the better choice for your body - metabolic or weight health. For that you need to know a) amount, type of carbohydrate (hint: they are all “sugars”) b) form (liquid or solid matters) c) if no-carbohydrate or less due to the presence of non-nutritive sweeteners, that will impact your oral and gut microbiome plus your sweet taste buds … of course what else is in there matters too. As both a 25+ year nutrition practitioner and someone who spent several years developing marketing campaigns for sugared cereals (I’m sooo sorry!) I’m hear to tell you that a marketing term that sounds too good to be true IS 🎯 What else is the “💩 to unlearn?” about health and nutrition? That’s chapter 3 in Your Best Shot available where you borrow or buy books. You can also ask me for free in the Weight Health Nutritionist (tm) AI @onixhq or get 1:1 personalized plan @thebetternutritionprogram #linkinbio

Are you avoiding fruit because you think the sugar is keeping you from losing weight?

I want you to look at the whole food — not just the fructose or carbohydrate number.
Those matter but not to choose fruit or not. Let me explain:

In 25 years of working with people, I haven’t had someone develop a weight-health issue because they ate fruit.

When I look at a food choice for weight health, I ask:

→ How is digestion? Can you break down and use the nutrients?
→ Is the quality and quantity giving your body resources without excess or irritation?
→ What are you eating and drinking with it?

Because that last one matters.

Sometimes the fruit gets blamed when the bigger carbohydrate load at that “pit stop” is coming from the beverage, sauce, other foods — or even things you don’t think of as carbohydrate sources, like some protein powders or gummy vitamins.

The food matrix matters. And so does the whole meal.

So before you take fruit off your plate because you’ve been told “sugar is sugar,” look at the whole picture.

🥝 What fruit are you still avoiding because you’re afraid of the sugar?

Silly rabbits, tricks are for kids.
There’s no weight horoscope.
That number is meaningless EXCEPT we’ve given it a lot of meaning.
That’s stops here.
Because your weight means literally nothing about your health, your body’s operations and its available resources.
And that’s what we need to judge your health today and tomorrow.
That’s why I created the weight health movement - well also because your body makes and relies on weight-health hormones like GIP PYY CCK Amylin and G L P 1 and 2. When they are suboptimal you will struggle with weight health - bone, muscle, fat and water - their types location and amounts… regardless of diet and exercise or even medication.
That’s why Your Best Shot (my bestselling book) is available playbook for practitioners and patients. And why @thebetternutritionprogram offers personalized weight health plans nationwide for all ages.
Regardless of your sun or moon sign, your weight health plan is always what your body needs for optimal health.

We’ve got new ferritin levels that are a great step towards optimizing iron levels. And that matters because it impacts your muscle, energy, gut and overall health. But it also is impacted by inflammation. And it’s not going to tell us everything we need to know. That’s why I did a full iron optimization deep dive in my substack. It’s what you need to know, do and get done so that your body has what it needs to run better at every life stage. #linkinbio #iron #ferritin #personalizednutrition #weighthealth

Ferritin levels have changed so that more of you may be “iron deficient”. That said I want to know if you are iron insufficient and more importantly I want to know why. Because insufficient iron means your bodies energy, nutrient delivery and hormones like testosterone are affected (or vice versa), it’s crucial we unpack “why” before we just supplement. We need to personalize iron especially in pregnancy and specific high-risk individuals and we need to use the right type of iron supplements at the right schedule to optimize your levels. Seems like a lot? It is and isn’t. @thebetternutritionprogram personalizes your total nutrition plan food and supplements and we use great tools like @pharmanutra_usa @fullwellfertility based on @aylabarmmer practitioner insights and we use my digestive assessment tools too. Get your iron sorted now and stay on top of it using these new guidelines AND better interpretation to then build a plan with the better tools for your body. #iron #ferritin #labtests #personalizednutrition

Personalized nutrition is specific. We figure out what your body needs and adjust your choices - food or supplements - or we fix part of your operating system (digestion, hydration etc) … often we do a combination. What we don’t do is look at one blood test and recommend a supplement. No one should be doing that. @thebetternutritionprogram we do personalized nutrition better, nationwide, for all ages. Let’s connect #linkinbio #iron #ferritin #labtests #personalizednutrition

Most nutrition guidelines make your health worse not better. The proof? As many as 9 in 10 adults are metabolically unhealthy. And most are trying to or have tried to follow at least one nutrition guideline. Like skipping egg yolks. When we do so we likely lose much of our daily choline. Don’t like eggs? You can supplement or consume it from different foods. But you need optimal levels because it does so many key things for your body including reducing the likelihood of excess liver fat. This popular breakfast food contains a hidden carb that may actually be GOOD for your metabolic health, despite what you’re hearing online.

Hi, I’m Ashley Koff. I’m a registered dietitian, and I’ve helped thousands of people improve their health through nutrition. If you want practical, science-backed nutrition tips, follow this channel.

Let’s talk about one of the most popular—and lately, misunderstood—breakfast foods: oats.

Oats have been getting a lot of criticism because they contain carbs and can raise blood sugar. But that misses an important part of the story.

Oats contain a special type of carb, a soluble fiber called beta-glucan.

And research shows that oat beta-glucan can help lower LDL cholesterol and may also help blunt the rise in blood sugar after a meal.

In fact, around 3 grams of oat beta-glucan per day has repeatedly been shown to lower LDL cholesterol.

Now, that doesn’t mean an enormous bowl of instant oats covered in sugar is automatically a health food. The type of oats, portion size, what you eat with them, and your individual glucose response all matter.

But that’s exactly the point: real food is rarely as simple as “good” or “bad.”

Oats contain carbs, but they also contain one of the most extensively studied forms of soluble fiber. This is why we need to go one step further when it comes to food education.

For more practical nutrition science, follow this channel. Bye!
