POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

87th Edition | 2nd November 2025

Who says intellectuals can’t be spooky? Week 87 proved that the best kind of ghosts are the ones who show up at 9:30 AM on a Sunday morning—fully costumed, caffeinated, and ready to haunt some pages.

We went all out for our Halloween-themed gathering, and the community delivered. Face paint, costumes, spooky vibes, and a stack of books that ranged from genuinely creepy to hilariously fitting for the theme. Turns out, literary nerds know how to party—we just do it with props, plot twists, and perfect attendance.

This week’s spooky (and not-so-spooky) stack:
🤔 What If? by Randall Munroe — absurd science questions
🩸 Wrath by various authors — dark tales
🧟 Frankenstein by Mary Shelley — the OG horror classic
🎭 Stanley Tucci — memoirs and musings
📖 Punjabi Stories by Renuka Singh & Rakhshanda Jalil — cultural narratives
📕 Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less by Jeffrey Archer — clever heists
⚔️ The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller — epic tragedy
📚 Malcolm Gladwell collection — mind-bending ideas
🐋 Moby Dick by Herman Melville — revenge on the high seas
🌙 The Almanack of Naval Ravikant — wisdom for wealth
🦗 Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens — mystery and isolation
📖 The Half-Known Life by Pico Iyer — philosophical travels
📔 Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank — history and hope
📖 Funny Story by Emily Henry — rom-com vibes
🫁 When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi — life and mortality
📚 The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey — productivity wisdom
💛 Yellowface by Rebecca F. Kuang — sharp cultural satire

We’re basically intellectual ghosts—haunting coffee shops, possessing book stacks, and scaring away productivity with our commitment to reading. BOO-kclub energy at its finest.

But wait—the reading was just Part 1. Stay tuned for Part 2, where costumes got even better, games got competitive, and things got delightfully chaotic. The real fun is coming! 👻

Here’s to 87 weeks of showing up—even in costume, even on a Sunday morning, even when the rest of the world is still asleep.
See you on Sundays from 9:30 AM onwards! 👻📚

As the new year gets closer, I’ve been reflecting on my reading and setting a TBR that feels good instead of overwhelming.

Next year’s focus is reading what I already own before buying anything new (ebooks count too 👀)

I’m really looking forward to slowing down and falling back in love with reading!

Do you have any reading goals for 2026?

74th Edition | Friendship Day Special 💕

What better way to celebrate Friendship Day than surrounded by books and kindred spirits? Our 74th gathering on August 3rd was a beautiful blend of literature and connection.

We began as we always do - two hours of peaceful silent reading, each lost in our own literary worlds. The magic happened when we came together to share our book stack of the day, creating that familiar mosaic of diverse stories and perspectives.

But the real surprise came from one of our dear readers - a handwritten poem titled “Versova Reads” that captured the essence of our community beautifully. Those lines about remembering faces, gentle conversations over coffee, and staying for “one more Sunday and one more book” - they spoke directly to our hearts.

To honor Friendship Day, we stepped away from our usual format and dove into connection games. Name introductions broke the ice, “Would You Rather - Literary Edition” sparked laughter and revelations, and speed friendship rounds gave everyone a chance to truly see each other. The day ended with friendship bands - those colorful threads from our childhood that brought waves of nostalgia and sealed new bonds.

There’s something magical about a community that grows through shared stories, quiet moments, and genuine human connection.
Here’s to 74 Sundays of building friendships, one book at a time. Join us every Sunday at 9:30 AM for our next edition! Bring a book, an open mind, and get ready to connect with fellow book lovers.📚✨

Versova Reads Recommends #3 is here! 📚This week, prepare yourself for a beautifully haunting journey with White Nights by Dostoevsky - a story that will stay with you long after you close the book.

White Nights by Dostoevsky is a quiet, melancholic read that lingers with you even after turning the last page. The story follows a lonely dreamer wandering the streets of St. Petersburg, who one night meets a woman in distress. Over a series of conversations in the next four nights, they form a beautiful connection. And even though they know that this relationship is not destined to last, it’s still special and deeply meaningful for both the characters.
This book explores the themes of yearning and loneliness with such tenderness. It makes you feel the bittersweet ache of fleeting connections and makes you realise how sometimes just a few moments with someone can feel magical and leave a lasting imprint on your life.
Reader: Snigdha

That’s all for this week’s soul-stirring recommendation! We’ll be back next week with another literary gem that deserves a spot on your reading list. The idea behind this series is to help you discover your next unforgettable read. Don’t forget - you might find these treasures at our monthly book exchanges!
Join us every Sunday morning at 9:30am to share stories and connect with fellow book lovers 💫

Thankyou for tagging me in the #whatthisweek tag @kelsisshelf 🤎

🍂What I’m reading:
Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton. It’s different to other books I’ve read as I’m used to reading non-fiction, however this book is about Alderton as she grew up and everything she has learnt along the way. I’m not very far into it yet, but I’m enjoying it!

🍂What I’m watching:
I literally just finished Darmer this afternoon. It was a really eye opening series to watch. I get so attached to characters and then I kept remembering that they were actual people who went through that. Seeing how his actions effected so many people, it’s just vile.

🍂What I’m listening to:
Sex, Drugs, Etc. by Beach Weather on repeat!

🍂What I’m looking forward to:
This time of year is probably my favourite. I’ve had an amazing week getting into the Autumn mood. I’ve been pumpkin picking, watching the trees change colour, drinking hot chocolates, shopping for candles and enjoying the cosy nights in. I’m mostly just looking forward to the rest of Autumn and Halloween.

I’ve tagged some people to do the tag, however anyone is welcome to give it a go🤎
