Circa is back this October 2024! Swipe to learn more about our opening week events ➡️

In its second year, the nation's first and only LGBTQ+ History Month festival gets even better with our headlining exhibition and opening plenary.

"Our Patch: LGBTQ+ Life from Cradle to Grave" features never-before-seen archival ephemera from ONE Archives at the USC Libraries, highlighting histories of LGBTQ+ community care and movement-building in Los Angeles. Co-curated by Andy Campbell (@andycampy), Jessica Carolina González (@jcg.studio), and Robert Brady (@thebradyrobert).

"Our Queerest Century: A Conversation with the Los Angeles Times" brings together @latimes writers to delve into their groundbreaking retrospective of the last 100 years of queer politics, life, and culture, as well as the findings of their national poll on American perceptions of LGBTQ+ people. Moderated by staff writer Kevin Rector.

Tickets for both the exhibition and opening plenary will be available in September. Sign up at the link in our bio or at circafestival.org to receive an alert when tickets are released.

Such heartbreaking news. So many memories of going to see her and Peaches Christ shows at the Castro, too much fun at the Oasis, her scolding me for renting a place in SF that was too far away from Sissy’s Pride gigs in 2016, the comedy shows and roasts, her uproarious laughter and wit. A true drag legend and historian. @heklina brought so much laughter and joy to so many. Sending love to those close to her. #restinpower #heklina #instadrag

There are no words for greatness, just an indescribable emotion of joy. That’s who @thejojobaby was. When I first met Jojo Baby I was going to #BoomBoomRoom at #GreenDolphin. I always was greeted with the most amazing hugs and wore their lipstick kiss, or whatever glitter that fell off them, with pride. JoJo made ArtDrag happen in #chicago and was not only the figurehead of Chicago’s underground club scene, he was one of the last living breathing walks of art that created themself into anything they imagined. I will cherish that legacy and keep this in mind to be true to myself, and think outside the box of everyday norms; to be imaginative in everything I do, and to be a doll in a land of the living.

Rest now, JoJo. May you be welcomed with the stars. 🌈✨🎎💚🪆🧝🏼‍♂️🧚🏼🧙‍♂️👑🔱🧸💐💋💄❤️‍🔥🏳️‍🌈✨

My heart is with you forever @jaysquaed ❤️‍🔥

We put so much weight on shows that depict “us” because there’s so few of ‘em made, especially ones with longevity (they’re often cancelled after a couple of seasons). And because there’s no universal queer, Latinx, Asian, bisexual, Black, lesbian etc experience we cling onto these representations even harder when they somehow reflect on us - and sometimes they get it “wrong,” and sometimes so “right” - like casting @thejenniferbeals and @laurelholloman as Bette and Tina whose rollercoaster of a relationship has given us the 20 year sapphic drama/saga of a lifetime. And whether @sho_thelword GenQ is picked up for another season or not, it’ll never be the same without them. I’m loving reading folks’ words on how they watched the OG L Word in secret and updating it with their current loves and lives, it just reminds me how we have to continue sharing our stories, drama and all. #tibette #tibetteisendgame #thelword #thelwordgenerationq #finale #season3 #jenniferbeals #laurelholloman #lesbianwedding #semitropic #aboutlastnight #lovewins
