In our ongoing oral polio vaccination efforts in Edo, we stand strong in the battle against poliomyelitis. By providing children with the Polio vaccine, we are not just preventing a disease; we are safeguarding the future of our children because every child deserves a healthy start, and at EDSPHCDA, we are working tirelessly to ensure just that.

Whether it's administering the polio vaccine to shield our children from poliomyelitis or conducting mass administration of medicines to combat Neglected Tropical Diseases in Edo, our commitment to health knows no bounds.

Last week, Deputy Chief of Mission at the @swissembassyusa, Christoph Sommer, had the pleasure of taking part in a panel discussion at the @uab_ihr in Birmingham to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The discussion, moderated by Dr. Tina Kempin Reuter, took place in the so-called “Magic City” which is also known as the cradle of the civil rights movement. Karin Ryan, Senior Policy Advisor at @thecartercenter, and Molefi Askari, Head of the Ubuntu Institute for Community Development, were joining the discussion as panelists. 👥💬

Among other things, the panelists talked about the historical context in which the UDHR was born, today’s relevance of the declaration, and how integral it is to their work. They emphasized that the UDHR laid the groundwork for subsequent human rights treaties, that human rights are always a work in progress in every part of the world, including the U.S., and that universal respect for these rights can only be achieved through a collective effort. As new challenges emerge today, such as climate change, LGBTQIA+ rights, and digital rights, it was also stressed that it is essential to create new norms and challenge existing ones in order to adapt to today’s reality. 🤝⚖️💡

Christoph Sommer also mentioned 🇨🇭’s four human rights priority areas, and one for the 🇺🇸: Freedom of expression, abolition of death penalty, upholding the ban on torture, protection of minorities, and criminal justice reform (only in the 🇺🇸).

Following the panel discussion, we had the pleasure of officially inaugurating the Swiss-made art exhibition “Dialogues on Humanity”, developed by the @swissdevcoop, the @photo.elysee museum, and the @icrc. Visitors were able to immerse themselves in the powerful images of the artists and the ICRC and discuss human rights issues as well as the humanitarian sphere and its evolution over light but delicious refreshments. 📸🖼️💭

Many thanks to everyone for the warm welcome in Birmingham, especially to Tina Kempin Reuter for the informative civil rights tour through the city. We hope to be back soon! 🤩

In a world that’s facing climate catastrophe, unity is our greatest strength. 🌍

#ProjectDandelion recently joined CARE USA to discuss the intersection between climate and gender, and found a room full of Dandelions actively engaged in the mission to ensure a climate safe future for all. Moezza Siddiqi and Karin Ryan from The Carter Center are Dandelions sowing seeds of change through their human rights work.

What an honor to be the 4th @thecartercenter Town Hall keynote speaker in 41 years to address the students and faculty of @emoryuniversity 🎓 A top five moment for me!
Dr. @valedadent, the students, and I had an inspiring
conversation about flourishing vs existing, caring for our global community, boundaries, and belonging that will stay with me forever. A BIG shout out to the amazing Emory student community - I loved every moment of our time together!

All of my Georgia Studies classes wrote birthday letters for President Carter’s 99th Birthday and we compiled them into a book that we sent to Plains, GA. Today we got a sweet response.
