Our co-founder Rosalynn Carter spent her life working to end mental health stigma. This #WorldMentalHealthDay, we carry that work forward in Sierra Leone by helping youth and journalists there become architects of the mental health conversation.

Working with the Directorate of Mental Health and NCDs, Mental Health Coalition Sierra Leone, and the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, we’ve created new guidelines for reporting on mental health and substance use so that they can build the narratives and political will required to create lasting policy reform.

Democracy Program Director Avery Davis-Roberts joined WABE’s “Closer Look with Rose Scott” to discuss the Carter Center’s nonpartisan election observation plans in Georgia for the upcoming midterm elections.

The Center is training volunteers to observe vote tabulation after polls close on Election Day in 30 counties across Georgia. Nonpartisan election observers will also monitor an important post-election process known as a risk-limiting audit in at least 60 counties across the state.

Georgia is one of five states — along with Michigan, Montana, Nevada, and New Mexico — where we are supporting nonpartisan election observation this year.

One word. That's all we're asking.

When you think of President Carter, what's the first word that comes to mind?

On what would have been the former president’s 102nd birthday, we put this question to Carter Center staff. Watch our video to hear what they said, then tell us yours in the comments below. by @thecartercenter
