As a teen and young adult I had one objective: to get as fucked up as possible. I had zero self-worth or regard for my own life.

To paint a picture of just how stark it was - almost every person I called a friend back then is dead.

A big chest and even bigger charm got me free drinks and drugs night after night, but came with the unspoken obligation to let people (read: men) do whatever they wanted with me.

When I wasn't partying, my codependent ass clung to one abusive or bad relationship after another. Whether it was just for one night or for a few years, I was out to secure the most important thing to me at the time: the charade of not being alone in the world.

People used me. I used people. And I hated myself.

It never crossed my mind that a solid career, love, or stability would ever be on the table. That a real life would be on the table.

But before I had a shitty lifestyle, I had books. And books made me smart. Buried underneath the chaos was a mind that could think critically and understand a world it hadn't actually seen. Books gave me the thing that ultimately saved me: potential.

And then came my why. My everything. My daughter.

I went from living a starved life to being absolutely ravenous for it. I went from passing out in dark alleys to running hundreds of kilometres through the depths of the night. From feeling like I was worth less than the dirt beneath my feet to being the kind of woman who stops to admire everything growing out of it.

And I still have the same objective: to get as fucked up as possible. Only now, I want to get there by running until my legs have nothing left, loving and sometimes losing with my whole fucking chest, working and providing for the wonderful hell-on-wheels that is a preteen girl.

I want life to fuck 👏 me 👏 up 👏 and leave nothing behind.

October is my favourite influencer.

She influences me to pay attention.

To notice how the light looks so warm while the air feels so cold.

To accept that the prettiest trees often make the biggest mess.

To appreciate how everything smells more alive even though it’s dying.

To get excited about the extra spice infused into everything.

To run like my lungs have been waiting all summer for this air.

The Day is finally here

I start my run at 4pm as far up the Welland Canal as I can go in the Port Weller area.

For those meeting to run the last 6km on Sunday please meet around 9.30am, I originally said 9am but it’s going to be closer to 9.30am as we are not wanting to get to Queenstreet before 10.30am.

Remember if you want to park around Queenstreet where it’s free we do have some willing volunteers who will drive you to the meet point, just reach out and I can help arrange this.

Remember there is a BBQ on the Lawn of City Hall from 10am - 1pm and I would love to see you there.

No big plans.
Just good coffee, a few miles, made a cool tattoo and a little time on the bike. Finished with popcorn on the couch with my favourite person.
A day spent well.
