What are a couple things you need to 'make' a run? Drop them in the comments.

I've been running for 26 years and there have been many chapters in that story.

I've meticulously planned and logged details in pursuit of lofty PBs in races.
I've been sidelined with injuries.
I've (mostly) run alone.
I've fallen in and out of love with running.
I've met some of my favourite people running.
I've worn questionable outfits.
I've started a run crew.
I've run with dogs. Shout out to Florence and RIP Sparrow.
Some of my proudest and most challenging moments have happened while running.

In that time, I've learned a tonne.
Some of what I have learned is what makes a good run.

In my opinion, there are way more than five things and if I made this list tomorrow or 10 years ago, the items would almost certainly be different than the ones here.

My goal these days places less emphasis on faster times and more emphasis on quality time.

Time with friends.
Time with the crew.
Time with Florence.
Time in nature.
Time sipping espresso.
Now.
And hopefully, 40 years from now.

My favourite author, Haruki Murakami, says that he'd like to grow old alongside running.

Perfect.

I'm fortunate to have wonderful people to share this time with. Friends, crewmates, and community partners, like lululemon.

They support the crew with incredible enthusiasm, and generosity.

As the leader of that crew, I also benefit from being gifted some phenomenal gear. The same gear I have been beating up and loving for years.

I invite you to pop into the store atThe Pen Centre next time you need that perfect piece. They'll take care of you.

You won't want to miss it.

Set your alarm.
Make the drive to Welland and lace up for this crew favourite.

Everybody welcome, every time.

An Autumn Rise and Grind?

Maybe our favourite.

Tough to beat when you have all of your besties there, which incidentally now includes our new pal, Mimi, repping the Big Nickel, on a dark and chilly rip through The Fitz.

To that legendary staff at the already legendary Cafe Pique-Nique.

Merci beaucoup.
Nothing but love.

This is the one.

That intimate crew vibe.
The pastries.
The quiet streets.
Montebello Park.
Scratching your favourite dog's ear.
The coffee.
Your crewmates.
And, pastries.

Find out why we look forward to getting up early Thursday mornings.

This is the spot.

Lap 7. Complete.

On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in 2019, ten people showed up on a dark corner outside Maestro's to run with some strangers.

Two promises.

Moderate pace.
Positive space.

Since then, those people brought some cool and caring people, who in turn, welcomed in more cool and caring people.

The Corners.
Just a bunch of people loving each other.

Book clubs, Instagram Lives, Parking lot hangs, Pop-Up Print Shops, pass-it-on journals, stickers, crew tattoos, Speaker Series, Flash Mob, Mindful Miles, Rundowns, Solstices, ATBs, PBs, shoe demos, the raddest friends in local business, crew captains, Gear Swaps, sub-crews, BFFs, OGs, and on and on and on.

Tonight we welcomed in some new crewmates and friends to start Lap 8. Big welcome to Dolamu, Dianne, Joey, Isaiah, and Michael. We'll catch you up on Seasons 1-7.

To our incredible hosts over these last seven years...
Thank you.
You always make us feel like we're home.

That includes our besties, @helliwellhall
Total bonus when your hosts are crewmates.

A very special thank you to everyone who stepped outside their comfort zone to lace up with us over the years and an even bigger thank you to those people who extended a warm welcome and helped to make someone feel included.

That is the whole thing.
Nothing but love.

We are The Corners.

The logo, of sorts, you see here, was the one we used for the first 6 or 7 months of The Corners.

Lap 7 complete.

On a dark and chilly Tuesday night in 2019, a handful of people took a chance. They walked down to Maestro's Pizzeria on Lake Street and met a bunch of strangers to go for a run.

The rest, as they say is history.
Created together.

Lace up with us Tuesday as we start Lap 8.
We'll have more fun if you're there.

The Crew Cut.

Helliwell Hall × Di's Pies

5km out-and-back with loads of options to make it as chill or as challenging as you like.
Pace and distance always your call.
Crew captains in effect.

$10 off a pizza when you order two pints!

Free parking on the streets after 6pm and in adjacent public lots on Garden Park, Carlisle, and Ontario.

Personal Victories are great. Crew Victories are better. $7000 for our friends at De dwa da dehs nye> s

Like a PB, the victory lies in the things very few people see.

Friends stepped up.
Business partners jumped in.
Texts, emails, DMs.
Pick-ups, set asides.
Printing, cutting, bundling.
Making prizes, donating prizes.
Buying tickets. Making time.
Hugs, deep breathes, sweaty brows, big smiles, and full hearts.

Thank you...
For lacing up.
For supporting.
For making time and bringing friends.
To our crew captains.
To all the crewmates who helped organize, deliver prizes, sell tickets, etc.
Special shout out to the folks who stepped up today - Nik, Whit, Melanie, Sammy, and crew OG, Pete.
Nothing but love to our incredible Mindful Miles event organizers, Bev, Karlie, Meagan, and Colin.
To Mahtay for hosting and always making us feel like we're home. @mahtaycafe
To everyone from @aboriginalhealthcentre
who made the trip to St. Catharines to support the event. It's an honour to partner with such incredible people.
To DWF for the tremendously generous contribution of $2000 to this year's campaign.
To all of our phenomenally talented friends and partners who generously donated prizes to the campaign. Please share the love and show your appreciation by supporting these businesses.
To Karlie for leading a moving guided meditation.
To our friends at @niagaraqueerruncrew for their support in sharing the posts/stories and jumping in today and helping out.

We will reach out to our crewmates who won a prize but weren't present at the event to collect.

Thank you for making this thing so much fun.

We are The Corners.
It's bigger than the run.

1997 Remix.

I loved the 90's.
I finished high school.
Played tonnes of basketball.
Met loads of incredible people.
Became a teacher.
Started to figure some things out.
The music was killer.
Moved away to New Zealand.
Met my wife.
I still had a bit of hair, and just a couple tattoos.

Fast forward 30ish years and a lot has changed.
Like almost everything.
And, I don't want to go back either.
The 90's were great. In the 90's.

One thing I am happy to see return is the whole long sleeve t-shirt under a short sleeve t-shirt.
I beat that look to death for more than a decade.

Now, I've slid it back into my daily running fits.
I sized up the short sleeve t-shirt so that it doesn't cling to the long sleeve and I love it.

I highly recommend anything in the Mile Maker range from lululemon, especially the short sleeve t-shirts. The Mile Maker Merino Wool Blend would make a great undershirt too, especially as we head into fall, but my go-to would be something more fitted like the Unrestricted Power Long Sleeve from the Workout line.

I recognize that in the 90's my shorts would have been bigger and my socks would have been shorter but this is the remix.

Crew length socks and a 5" inseam short like the Fast and Free Lined Short or the 8" Fast and Free Tight.

And EPMD 'Da Joint' was definitely part of the soundtrack.

Don't wait for spring for the refresh.
Lots of fall ahead of us before winter creeps in.

I would encourage you to pop into lululemon at The Pen Centre and connect with one of the educators there (most of them are crewmates!). They'll hook you up.

There are other ways to hit refresh too! The Corners will be hosting another epic Gear Swap at the beginning of November. Stay tuned for details.

Nothing but love for all of the incredible support lululemon at The Pen Centre has shared with us over the last three years or so. It is also an honour to serve as their run ambassador. As I enjoy my last handful of months in the role I am able to reflect on how wild this adventure has been.

Thank you.

Hanging with our pal, Itunu.

@itunu_akinwale

A couple weeks ago, we had the distinct pleasure of welcoming our friend, and (soon to be) crewmate, Itunu Akinwale, who I first met through Future Black Female (collaboration incoming...). She surprised us with an impromptu interview and some incredible videography early on a gorgeous Grape and Wine Festival Saturday outside of @brindlefoodco

As a crew, we remain grateful for the friendships and partnerships we've formed in our community and we look forward to working with Itunu again soon.

Nothing but love for Itunu and the depth of generosity and creativity she has shared with the crew.

Stay tuned.
More to follow.
