It’s day 2 of the #mmtm challenge:
Behind The Scenes..
No filter. Pre-Coffee.
Perimenopause ALL DAY!
I’m from The Bronx, People, so today I’m as us ol’timers used to say “keeping it real”
Behind the scenes of a small business, not everything is sunshine and rainbow skittles. We have kids, spouses, bills, politics, self reflection. Life Be Lifin!
And when it’s time to shelf all of that, we dust off, create, put on Our game faces and meet the public with a smile and our wares. All the while in the back of Our Minds, hoping to get that “One Good Day”
Because that One Good Day can make us or break Us when it comes to providing.
That’s what’s behind the scenes.
And We do it with Hustle. With Tenacity.
No PTO. No sick time. No HR.
Just Ourselves. And Our Art.
That’s Real.

Motivational Monday Post.
First, thank you @shawnjamesmusic for Your handwritten lyrics to what has been, and will continue to be My Anthem.

In 2020 this journey started after losing My job at T-Mobile. In 2022 I lost My Father. 5 months later I had a stroke and 2 months after that I had open heart surgery. 13 days later, I was back into shows meeting @adzineny , one of the most amazing artists this side of the Hudson River.

Now the obstacles. (As if the above wasn’t enough right?)
This year, exposure was a positive, airing on @news12wc or so I thought. Subsequently, My homeowners insurance filed a cease and desist to stop “manufacturing” in My garage.
I was devastated. Angry. Defiant. Feeling like I was being forced out of what I consider to be The American Dream.
The devastation was the initial reaction. The anger was towards Myself for not even considering to find a space sooner.
I have two sons. Both The Greatest Creations of My Life. But I didn’t make them on My Own.
This. Casa Cherrywood Carvings. I made on My Own.
This is also My Baby. And I refuse to give up on it or have someone tell Me I can’t keep what I created.
Within two weeks of getting that notice, I was able to find a space with money I didn’t have.
I’ve had to turn down shows because I have to make sure the rent is paid.
As I write this, my bank account is in the negative.
And I don’t care.
I made a choice. I will claw, dig, grip and clench for what is Mine. And show the scars of My Wounds through My Art.
This is not a plea for help. This is not an ask for a handout. This is a “call to arms” for anyone doubting themselves, feeling like they are ready to quit and have those moments where anyone or anything will attempt to kick You off Your Mountaintop.

To You, I say this:

Keep going. You’re not done.
And neither am I.
