Have you ever considered the risk factors to developing a negative body image? One of them is your exposure to media/social media.
The more time spent in the media world ➡️ the more vulnerable we are to compare our appearance to unrealistic body standards.

You are in control of what you scroll through each day!!📲🤳🫂

Answering Your FAQs About Birth Control 💊✨

Is Birth Control Bleeding a "Normal" Period?
👉🏼A natural menstrual period occurs due to the shedding of the uterine lining when no fertilization happens. In contrast, the bleed during birth control is a withdrawal bleed caused by hormone fluctuations and doesn’t involve ovulation. So no, it’s not a "normal" period.

Vitamins & Minerals Depleted:
Using birth control long-term can deplete essential vitamins and minerals, including:
-Selenium, Folate, Vitamin B12/B6 , Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin E, Magnesium
👉🏼Consider incorporating foods rich in these nutrients or supplements (consult your Dietitian) to support any deficiencies.

Birth Control & Female Athletes
👉🏼Not getting a natural period can be a red flag for underfueling, and birth control may mask this issue. It’s essential to ensure adequate nutrition to support both your training and menstrual health. For many female athletes losing a period was once thought as being "fit," but this could not be more false. Continue to have the conversation with your coaches, doctors and parents about the concerns of REDS.

Staying On or Going Off Birth Control: Your Options
👉🏼Non-Hormonal Alternatives:
-Copper IUD
-Fertility awareness methods
-Barrier methods like condoms or diaphragms

Whether you choose to stay on birth control or explore non-hormonal options, the choice is yours! As a former D1 athlete and now Dietitian who has been on birth control personally for years I understand the questions that arise. But ultimately it's most important to do what is best for you and continue to stay educated on the impacts long term birth control may have.

A new episode of Mind Your Fitness is here!

In this episode @fueledandbalanced.dietitian and I are joined by Sports and Eating Disorder specialized Dietitian, @dietitian2dirtfarmer. Victoria has over 20 years of experience in clinical and sports dietetics specializing in the prevention and treatment of eating disorders in sports and the performing arts. She has built lasting programs and coached athletes of all kinds specializing in weight class sports and combat arts. She is an educator and new clinical coordinator for the Drexel University MS in Nutrition and Dietetics program. She is the co-creator of @theembodiedathlete.

In this clip Victoria references how there are SO many different types of metrics outside of body composition that can be used to assess how an athlete is responding to training or nutritional changes. Further, over-reliance of body composition analysis can unfortunately present harm to an athlete and eating disorder risk.

Anyone inspired by this warmer weather to do some Spring cleaning? Why not include your social media in the process?!
💐 🌺 🌸 🌹🪻🌷🌼

It’s no surprise at this point that social media can take a toll on a person’s mental health, especially if we spend too much time looking at and comparing ourselves to others (anything from looks, clothes, body type, finances, to life and career accomplishments and milestones). While it’s great that we are all free to post the best parts of us and our lives on social media, it’s OK that certain accounts or posts don’t align with what make YOU feel powerful and positive about yourself. Unfollowing or even muting accounts like these can help.

What are some of your favorite accounts to follow?! Asking for myself 😜
