I got volume 2 of the TGCF manhua in the mail today!! Thank you @inklorebooks for sending this early review copy!! 😍 Volume 2 releases next week, July 7th!!

I was planning to dive right into volume 2, then I realized I read volume 1 last year before I had gotten into the danmei (which I have since completed this spring)! I figured a quick reread of volume 1 of the manhua would be fun, both as a refresher before reading volume 2 but also to read it for little clues and details now that I know the whole story and all the character arcs 🫣 There were several parts that had me in my feels (I’ll share some from vol 2) 🫠

In the danmei when I read Ling Wen’s explanation about the four tales and four calamities, it didn’t mean much to me yet, but ahhh!! The little preview of the wind master!! I can’t wait for Shi Qingxuan and Ming Yi to be introduced!! And then the four calamities, love this little teaser of each of them!! 😱 The Black Water arc is one of my favorites, and I don’t think the comic will reach that point, so I’m happy to have this backshot teaser of him 🫣🖤

Also, learning the significance later about Hua Cheng challenging the 35 heavenly officials.. My heart when I got to that part 😩 SO SO much meaning behind his actions 🥺🫶 San Lang’s introduction and some sweet moments at the founding of Puqi Shrine 🥰

Seeing the story in this medium is so special!! TGCF in STARember’s art style is absolutely stunning 💞✨ I’m so happy we have this release in print!! 🥹

Heaven Official’s Blessing 🦋

I finished Heaven Official’s Blessing this past weekend! 🤗 It was such a treat that my first time reading this series was with the deluxe hardcover edition! The books are so nice! 😩✨

“To die in battle for you is my greatest honor” 🥺💔

I was crying so much during this scene 😭 I’d been looking forward so much to some of these reveals, but then they really hurt me 😩 I love Hua Cheng so much! ❤️ I really like this volume’s cover illustration and the scene of Hua Cheng and Xie Lian reuniting 🏮🏮🏮 The last chapter of the main story was also really special because some of my favorite HuaLian moments were their calligraphy lessons throughout the series, so getting one more lesson, the reveal about Hua Cheng’s forearm, and knowing he did Puqi Shrine’s establishment plaque made me really happy!! Additionally, getting one last BeefLeaf moment soothed me 🥰 Shi Qingxuan is sunshine!! ☀️🍃 and the kitchen raider!! 🍲🍖 I love that Hua Cheng acts so indifferent toward Black Water through the series, but you can sense the mutual trust between them and even a bit of fondness ☺️

I really liked that the side story chapters followed HuaLian rather than switching focus to side characters so we could see the next stage of their relationship 🥰 I enjoyed Xie Lian’s Amnesiac Adventures but The Cave of Ten Thousand Gods revisited chapter was my favorite extra!! “If only every Xie Lian could have a Hua Cheng” 😭😭😭❤️ The art page of the statues in that chapter was my favorite of the b&w art pages through the whole series 🥰 A few other highlights for me were: “my husband, Hua Cheng” 🤭, “San Lang-gege” 😇, the mating statues 🫣, and Hua Cheng’s potato-flower embroidered belt 😆🥔🥔

Do you have a favorite TGCF scene or moment that was really special to you?

I’m sad it’s over, but I went on a little fanfic bender to get some BeefLeaf healing, and I’m excited that I have the donghua to watch still and @inklorebooks manhua release to look forward to!! My next danmei binge is The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System! This will be my first read through of SVSSS, and I’m pumped to be able to read this series too from the deluxe hardcover edition!! ☺️

Heaven Official’s Blessing 🎭

No spoilers, but finally got the massive antagonist reveal in this volume 😱🫣🤐

I finished volume 7 Wednesday night! The scene at Black Water Demon Lair gave me HuaLian vol 4 flashbacks that made me happy 🥹🥰 Hua Cheng is so funny, “Don’t worry about it. He owes me money.” 😆 The whole volume, Xie Lian kept making me laugh! He’s so used to being embarrassed that he doesn’t get embarrassed anymore.. except for when he does get embarrassed 😂 but then he just turns around pretends whatever’s happening is in fact not happening and wills away his shame 😂👌

I loved the little bits of BeefLeaf crumbs we got with the Shi Qingxuan’s development!! 😭🤲🍃 It surprised me how big role of a role Mei Nianqing played in this volume! “Your Highness, I saw it.. On top of that giant divine statue..” 🤣🤣🤣 Love that he ultimately supported Xie Lian’s happiness 🥰 but I was dying seeing how he interacted with Hua Cheng and Mu Qing 😂 Mei Nianqing and Hua Cheng are such big haters 😆 Pei Ming was an absolute riot through the past two volumes too, and I am loving him more and more every time he’s around 🥹 FengQing has really been keeping me on edge, and with that cliffhanger, I had to read right into volume 8! 🫣

I actually stayed up late and finished the main story last night!! 🙈 Going to be continuing into the extras today, really excited to see what they’re gonna be about!!

Heaven Official’s Blessing 🎭

“I’m willing to never rest in peace.. I am forever your most devoted believer”

I finished volume 6 last night! I love Hua Cheng so much 😩❤️ Chapter 93 has been my favorite chapter of the entire series so far, and I’m probably not the only one 🤭 There were certain memes and fanart I had seen before getting into TGCF that kinda spoiled the cave reveal, but I still loved it, the murals especially!! 🥰❤️‍🔥 “He was like a criminal on death row” 😆🥹🫶 Hua Cheng’s masterclass in devotion 😌🙌

About a third of this volume is in the present, but the remaining two thirds cuts to Xie Lian’s backstory, his life between his first banishment and second ascension. I’d been so eager for all the details around his two banishments ever since reading the prologue, and I felt for Xie Lian so much 😔 This was the most painful and humiliating period of his life full of his biggest regrets 😭 The lead up to Ruoye’s introduction was heartbreaking 🥺💔

Little ghost flame Honghong-er 😭😭😭 Hua Cheng’s ghost origin story alongside Xie Lian’s despair was actually so cute 😩 but also really sad.. especially remembering the temple dice game passage in volume 4 when he was asked about the worst suffering of his life, he answered “watching your beloved be trampled and ridiculed with your own eyes and being unable to do anything about it” 🥺🗡️ He was a determined but powerless little flame, so when he achieved a human form, he was ready to do anything to lessen his gege’s pain 😩❤️‍🩹

Really enjoyed this volume and happy to have buddy read it with selen, so much gushing 😆 Volumes 4 & 6 have been my favorites so far, and I’m really eager to get back to the Kiln and get more answers!! 🧐 Two volumes to go!!

My favorite thing about volume 5 was smol Hua Cheng doing all the baby things and being adorable 🥹🤏 Him clinging to his gege and nuzzling into him while being carried was everything 😭💘 I was dying from his cuteness and happy that Xie Lian suffered from cuteness aggression as well 🤭 The puppet master x puppet confrontation was such a fun scene! 😇

The whole inn incident at the start of the volume was so chaotic and ridiculous 🙈 Qi Rong is so ridiculous 🤦🏻‍♀️ He just won’t quit 😩 I feel for little Guzi being swept up in his nonsense but satisfied with Qi Rong’s current state by the end of the volume 😂 and hope he stays that way for a while 🥲 Pei Ming made me laugh so much this volume, that he kept catching Xie Lian in compromising positions/situations 🤣 I finally saw how Pei Ming looks in STARember’s art style while I was reading this volume, and sorry to say, he has my attention 🧎🏻‍♀️🙈 I was excited to finally meet the Rain Master this volume and QuanYin! Curious to see how QuanYin will interact moving forward from here 🧐

The search for temples and the mural analysis scenes have all been exciting 👀 I’m assuming the temple on the cover illustration is the second temple from the narrow mountain path (based on the mural description and HuaLian jumping around 🤭) but there is a red umbrella missing 🤔 Really eager to continue because of where the volume left off 🫣 I have a bunch of theories floating around in my brain about White No Face, the Crown Prince of Wuyong, and the man in white on the way to Mount Tonglu 🧐 Eager to see what’s gonna happen now that they’re at Mount Tonglu! 🌋 Will be reading volume 6 into this weekend (omg the cover illustration 😱)! Heaven Official’s Blessing 🦋

I finished volume 4! Wow, what a ride it was.. 😮‍💨 The mystery and chase were so gripping and painful (I go on at length about it below! 🙈) No spoilers in the photos but there are spoilers below and in the pinned comment 😬🙏

Some of things I loved in this volume were: HuaLian’s coffin toss and grind and tumble 🤭, their campfire heart to heart about Hua Cheng’s special person 🥺, Hua Cheng’s follow up calligraphy lesson and insistence on transcribing Ache of Separation 🥰, Hua Cheng in disguise 🥰, and Xie Lian’s detectable ghost qi residue from the lip balm spirit named Hua Cheng 🤣💄

Getting into volume 5 continuing the Brocade Immortal/Mount Tonglu arc! I’m really intrigued to see more about the ghost battle royale and find out about the potential new ghost king 👀🫣

⚠️⚠️⚠️ MAJOR VOL 4 SPOILERS BELOW!! ⬇️⚠️⚠️⚠️

I usually don’t share any spoilery thoughts in my captions, but I had so many feels from this volume 😩 I became so fond of BeefLeaf in vol 3, so the reveals in chapter 64 shocked me so deeply and then chapter 65 was absolutely devastating 😭 I felt so much for Shi Qingxuan, losing his two special people at the same time (and his own outcome unknown..) 💔 Shi Wudu was so selfish and villainous in what he did, but he loved his baby brother and was willing to do something so terrible to someone else to protect him 😩 He Xuan had not only his future torn away from him but also had to watch all of his loved ones suffer and die 😞 It hurt to watch Shi Wudu mocking his pain but I was honestly glad he provoked He Xuan to take action himself instead of Shi Qingxuan being forced to do it 😖 That illustration was so brutal 😫 and then Ming Yi literally did nothing but was captured and held captive for centuries (likely being tortured) until his foiled escape attempt 😭 His bones lashed out 😓 There was no way He Xuan was not going to make Shi Wudu pay, but to Shi Qingxuan, he said “I gave you so many chances” 😩 [cont. in comments]

Heaven Official’s Blessing 🦋

After seeing the vast sea, no water can compare;

Scattered from the peak of Mount Wu, there are no other clouds;

Many times I’ve passed through the flowers, yet I spare them no glance;

For half my fate is in cultivation, and the other half, in you.

That this poem about separation and eternal love and devotion was the first thing Hua Cheng thought to write when Xie Lian wanted to see his handwriting 😩❤️ The Thousand Lights Temple chapter’s calligraphy lesson (and the little flower on the alter) was my favorite part of volume 3!! 🥰

I finished volume 3 tonight and now getting into volume 4! Volume 2 ended with a few chapters into Xie Lian’s backstory before his first ascension, and about half of volume 3 continued that backstory. I found it really frustrating because Xie Lian had such good intentions, but it wasn’t a situation he could control 🥺 Adore little Honghong-er, such a good boy, sweet and devoted! 😩 My other favorite scene of the volume was when he brings a fresh flower to the small shrine Xie Lian stumbles upon in the rain 🌼☔️ I hope we’ll get to revisit some of the scenes from these chapters later on in the story from his pov to see how he felt in these moments and found the will to live 🫶 A few other things I liked in this volume: the lanterns 🥰❤️, Xie Lian’s first kiss (and it being publicly exposed 🤣), and Hua Cheng eating Xie Lian’s dubious food and praising his cooking 😇

Curious about Mu Qing acting a bit sus in this vol 👀 Already was tabbing FengQing moments/descriptors/reactions but also had to google “Ming Yi Shi Qingxuan ship name” because I really like Shi Qingxuan and wanted to tab some of his scenes along with some of their moments together! 🤭 I had heard BeefLeaf before but now I know who they are and what their name means 🍖🍃🙌 Gonna have to go back through vols 1 & 2 to mark a couple other scenes 😌 I want to search some other characters to see what they look like in the donghua and manhua but still trying to be careful not to get any plot spoilers 🙈

Anyways, I’m invested in the Reverend of Empty Words arc, so I’m ready to continue!!

Heaven Official’s Blessing 🦋

I finished volume 2 last night and got into volume 3! I really like Hua Cheng 🥰❤️ and I’m excited to see more about HuaLian’s history and find out more about the present day drama! 👀 Little Honghong-er is so tiny and cute 😩❤️‍🩹 Also the little bits of FengQing banter past and present 😆👌 I’ve seen some spoilers over the years, so I think I know some HuaLian related things (😂) but I’ve still been surprised by little developments along the way so far and don’t really know where the plot is going to take me! I’ll pin the series blurb in the comments for anyone else who hasn’t read this series already 😆

I’m so excited to finally be reading this series! My friend @slnsmangaworld has been asking me to read it for over 3 years.. I’m sorry it took me so long!! 🥹 I’m honestly glad this wasn’t my first danmei (esp first historical danmei) because I know I would’ve been so confused over so many of the characters having multiple names and titles that are used interchangeably 🙈 I’ve been relying heavily on my name chart 🥹 Also, before getting into danmei last year, I hadn’t read or watched hardly any Chinese media besides a couple of modern day set manhua, so I was entirely unfamiliar with cultural norms/tradition/lore that I’m now a bit more comfortable with having a few reads under my belt 🥰

I read the ebook for volume one in January and decided to pause so I could pick up the hardcovers and continue reading from the physicals! I was also planning to binge Erha because I wanted to catch up before the series finale released, but I didn’t want to be reading two historical danmei series in tandem (in case I might mix things up between the two series), so finished my Erha binge (loved it!!) and continuing into my TGCF now into April! I think April will be a heavy MXTX month for me because I’ve also been really hyped to read SVSSS since getting my boxset hardcover release, and I also have the first couple MDZS volumes on the way from my library to check it out and decide if I want to pick up those hardcover volumes as well 🙈💸

Happy Monday!!! What are you currently reading?

I’m about halfway through volume 1 of Witch Hat Atelier and I’m loving it so much!! The art is lovely, the characters expressions are depicted so well because of it 😭 and the way magic is used is so fun 🥹 it’s no surprise I’m utterly obsessed with Qifrey 🥲🥰 he’s gonna be my lil pookie!!!

Thank you to @theemmaaedit for gifting me a copy 🥹 when she asked what manga I owned and I said to gift me a favorite, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m so happy she picked this one!!

Immediately upon receiving this gorgeous pr box in the mail this week, I dove right into the manhua!! I know this series is super loved by many, but I haven’t gotten into the danmei novels yet 🙈 so I was excited to get into the story in this medium!! 📖

For anyone else who is completely new to the series like me, the prologue introduces a prince, Xie Lian, who ascends as a god but is soon banished from the heavenly realm. He ascends a second time, is cast out again, and proceeds to live in hardship in the mortal realm. The story begins with his third ascension and follows him as he is low on merits and looked down on by the other heavenly officials 🥲 I know this is the most simple and basic introduction, that’s what I get for being so late to the series 😆

I can’t wait to meet Hua Cheng! 🥹 After seeing so many people gush over Hualian and seeing beautiful fanart over the years, I’m so excited to get to the romance in this story!! ❤️

I’m so blown away by the luxe print quality of this release, such attention to detail!! 😍 In addition to the top notch print and paper quality, the book is hardcover with gold foiling, the dust jacket cover and spine have the glossy title embossed, black sprayed edges with red floral details and butterflies, and a vibrant red design contrasting the black endpapers 😍🖤

STARember’s art style is absolutely stunning!! Every panel feels like an art piece 😭✨ I really hope that Inklore has STARember’s artbook on their agenda 🥰🙏

When you think of your favorite foodie mangas, does Naruto come to mind? 🤭 I just got my copy of Naruto Shippuden: The Official Cookbook in the mail yesterday! My favorite thing about it is that Iruka is in it 5 times HAHAH!! 🙈💓 Ugh as he should be 😭🫶 Eating ramen with Naruto 🍜❤️✨

I am a big foodie and I love to cook, so I’ve been excited for this cookbook since it was announced! Here are the recipes I’m looking forward to trying out the most:

🐟 Kakashi’s Grilled Mackerel - imagining little Kakashi in the kitchen 😭💘 We eat a lot of salmon, and while I’ve eaten mackerel, I’ve never cooked it myself! 👀 Will be trying this recipe when I get my hands on some mackerel, and I will be imagining little Kakashi beside me 🥰

🍠 Hidden Rain Village Bread - this looks so tasty!! It’s just the kind of little filled bun I’d love to eat!! Can’t wait to try this one! 😋

🥔 Hidden Leaf Village Potato Hurricane - I love potatoes and ate a lot of these spiral potatoes when we were in Japan 🤭 but the wasabi batter sounds absolutely delicious 😍💚

🐙 Jinchuriki Takoyaki - we got a takoyaki pan last year and have made takoyaki a few times 😋 but will compare what we’ve been making with this recipe and will have to do a taste test 👀 I first tried octopus because of Hirotaka from Wotakoi, and I love it!

Really happy that Viz is printing extras like this for us!! I also have the One Piece: Pirate Recipes by Sanji cookbook and love it! 💛🏴‍☠️ The One Piece cookbook is in manga style vs Naruto’s having anime illustrations! I was surprised (and disappointed since I like alignment) that the two shonen cookbooks weren’t the same size 😩 The One Piece cookbook is taller, and the Naruto cookbook is thicker, but I’m just happy to have both of them!! 🥰🙌

Love of Kill | One Piece | Naruto

Ryang Ha, Sanji, and KakaIru are such a huge part of my life and personality 😆🖤💛💞 so ofc their series are really special to me and have had a big impact on me 🥰

Wotakoi | Yona of the Dawn

These are my favorite josei and shoujo series 🥰 Narumi is the number one most relatable fictional character for me, and the whole Wotakoi universe brings me happiness 😌 I’m so sad that YOTD is ending!! I’ve loved the journey, and it is the ultimate found family story and with so many tropes I love 🥺🫶

Kono Oto Tomare | Haikyu!!

These are my two favorite sport/club/music series!!! Haikyu!! is so much more than just a series about volleyball! It’s such a fun and feel good series with great depictions of rivalry, teamwork and bonds of friendship. Cannot wait to see the timeskip animated!!! 🏐 I am desperate for KOT to get an English print release 😭 It follows a group of high schoolers in their school’s koto club, and it has such lovable characters, heartwarming friendships, and really well written redemption arcs 💓

Love Nest | Kimi ni Koisuru Hazu ga Nai | What Did You Eat Yesterday?

My two favorite bl mangas, and my favorite foodie series (also bl!) 😍 There is so much bl I love, but because I was choosing manga and didn’t have to choose between the manhua, manhwa and danmei series I love, it was a little easier to choose 🙈 Love Nest is my number one 😌 I adore Asahi and Masato, the way they face themselves and each other, and their lust and silliness 🥰❤️‍🔥 Waiting for Kimi ni Koisuru Hazu ga Nai to get picked up 😭 Two salarymen bonding over shoujo manga is peak bl romance to me 🤭 WDYEY is such a cozy feel good read for me! I fell deeper in love with Kenji and Shiro after reading the mangaka’s doujinshi, and I’ve made several dishes from Shiro’s recipes 😋🍲
