POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It’s BSD Wednesday, lovelies! Can’t believe it’s been a week already 😭

I mentioned before how those that truly see Dazai for who he is are Chuuya, Mori & Fyodor and I believe the latter is who Dazai is drawn to by sensing that isolating genius and kinship.

Dazai is highly unmasked around Fyodor; he knows there is no judgement for his manipulation, alienation and apathy. Whereas Mori sought to groom Dazai for leadership and Chuuya sought to find humanity in Dazai that wasn’t there (regrettably making him feel more alienated), Fyodor accepts Dazai in entirety, even if they have conflicting views of humanity and god. He even expresses regret at the thought of losing Dazai, reinforcing that he does have attachment to him.

They’re both removed from humanity with a gift for puppetry, reflected in the series with chess metaphors. They control the game, somewhat detached from the suffering of their ignorant pieces. Instead they tease and circle each other, magnetised by genius and brilliance, recognising themselves in the other.

Dazai directly acknowledges being able to predict Fyodor’s schemes because he would do exactly the same. They even speak in their own private language in Mersault, reflecting the gift and curse of genius- only they truly understand each other.

Asagiri do be loving apples! Dazai bites an apple during his Cannibalism reunion with Fyodor; not only a personal touch to their history but also very symbolic. If the apple represents temptation and/or knowledge, Dazai is actively engaging with it, choosing to be drawn into Fyodor’s orbit. Fyodor deliberately moving past the dropped apple could be indicative of his higher purpose; he can’t afford to be tempted by distraction.

They’ll be lots more to go into with them both, particularly with God and the later chapters but I really appreciate and love their relationship. They both see something in the other they don’t have, they’re not judged by levels of morality, their genius is understood and matched- and I’m so ready to see how their game ends.

Hello, my lovelies! Happy Tuesday! 💛

What’s some of your favourite alternative official art?

I felt the absolute need to showcase this gorgeous BSD acrylic again. It’s my favourite illustration, especially of Chuuya- that off the shoulder is everything & I love how he’s next to Dazai; absolute power couple energy👌🏻

Bungo gets so many official illustrations of them in fashionable outfits, and I just love that - whether they’re shopping or just posed together like this it just makes my brain so happy to see!

I’d love them to do the Guild or Decay of Angels officially in an alternative deco piece like this- maybe purple and silver tones? Sigma would look gorgeous in anything, and to see Nikolai in something other than his stripes would be 👌🏻✨

They’re releasing this as a hanging scroll and I am SO TEMPTED 😅😂

Have a good rest of your day lovelies!

Happy Tuesday, my lovelies!

What official art would you love to have physically?

I adore this Dead Apple art so much, it’s one of my favourite BSD official anime arts 🫶🏻 One of my favourite Japanese legends is the red thread of fate so to see it in represented in any form makes me incredibly happy 🥺

Their placement in this art just makes my brain go - how Kyouka and Aku’s lives are tied and changed by Atsushi in different ways. Akutagawa by not killing for 6 months and realising he’s worth something to live outside of Dazai’s approval (which I hope we get so much more of!). Kyouka by living for herself, away from the Mafia and changing the very path of her life because of Atsushi’s belief and physical saving of her again & again.

Then we have our beloved SKK - we all know how red string coded they are, we can see it when they first meet at 15. The way Dazai has literal light come back into his eyes and choose to live because of Chuuya. (The edit of this with them holding hands out of the frame IS EVERYTHING)

Dazai with the one eye open, forever watching the game and plot unravel and moving his pieces into play.

It’s also a continuous connection (or that we’re given the illusion to see) which I love - like however things happen within the world they are bound and attached one way or another.

Also I have to say on a caveat how utterly gorgeous Chuuya looks in this illustration, his hair, his eyelashes - the way his hat which means so much to him close to his chest 🥺 I love.

I hope we have a good rest of your day my lovelies! I’m still waiting for a package that’s been stuck at customs over a week and I just want it home 😭

With this being one of my favourite anime arts, you guys all know how much I love Harukawa’s art, the tenth anniversary 😮‍💨 and Hoshi’s age 15 ✨

Hello, my lovelies!

Who are some BSD authors you want to read?

I haven’t done a BSD author talk in a while but after reading Oda’s stories of Osaka Life I had to talk about him 🥹

I didn’t know what to expect but I was so surprised at how accessible and full of love his writing is for observation of people and telling their stories. He also includes Easter eggs to his own favourite things or places in Osaka and that made the stories come to life even more.

Not only is Oda’s writing style easy to read, his descriptions of Osaka are so visceral I was experiencing all aspects of a street in different seasons.

In Sweet Beans for Two the main character eats his own favourite curry rice at his preferred restaurant Jiyūken - I’ve put some modern pictures of it on the next few slides, it’s still there in Osaka and a place on our trip we hope to visit next year 🥹

I also loved how much food, curried rice, tempura, big cuts of fruit was referenced in all his books- he’s such a foodie 😂

City of Trees & State of the Times felt more from Oda’s own tales of his own life and I really loved those- City of Trees especially for how we covered a walk through his childhood & described streets that no longer exist post war, especially a little record shop 🥹

All in all this has been one of my favourite reads from a BSD author, Asagiri really captured his voice 🥹 Oda also mentions how much it’s important to him to refer to real places with his work, specific dates and names because he feels these are things you can put your trust in. And his most important detail in writing people is using the senses; with feeling.
Because depicting human struggles and emotions is what’s relatable and trustworthy to him and above all: real.

The translation is filled with so much love, if you see any Japanese fiction translated by Burton Watson - trust it. He spent so much time talking to people who knew Oda and understanding the Osaka dialect - he really put care into it 🥹

Highly recommend if you love Oda! Accessible, witty and real, he’s a must read!

Kunikida was the strong winner of last weeks poll & I’m glad to finally be able to do his letter 🥹

It seems, very much like him, straight and to the point. But with that hint of a rational outlook that he’s still got growth to go to be who he wants to be. ‘I am still a young man’ 🥹

What I think is a pretty neat little addition, is he’s the only one so far to sign off the letter formally to us with his name (I suspect Fukuzawa also signs off with his name but I’m yet to translate it) It feels very professional and in keeping with his teacher-esque ways and formal ideals 😂

I chose the opening to Warm Shadow for the audio (thank yew walking dead) because I felt it was a steady practical beat that gave me Kuni vibes 😂

Hope you enjoyed his!

Whose letter would you like next week? 💛

Is there a figure in your collection you’re just captivated by? ✨

It’s been a while since my favourite figure of Chuuya appeared on my feed & he’s always screaming at me from his shelf to be photographed. It’s still a dream to see him as I never expected to own him when this Garage Kit was announced in 2022 🥹

He’s so dynamic and I adore the way his coat ripples back, and how the apple is cleverly barely sitting in his hand ~ he’s just chef’s kiss really ✨

The last photo I wasn’t 100% sure on but I wanted to include it anyway as I thought his coat looked cool rippling out in front of a red skied Yokohama 🤌🏻

I also had a little delivery from Japan today so I can’t wait to show my little haul tomorrow! ✨

Have a good rest of your day lovelies! I’m looking forward to reading more of Oda’s short stories tonight!

Mori’s letter from the official BSD letter campaign in Japan ✨

Let me know who’s letter you’d like next in the poll!

I actually really love the opening of the letter, that he knows all along this *person*- whether that’s us, the reader, has been watching. He’s always one, two or multiple steps ahead, and I love how it’s incorporated within this too. Along with the mild threat if he hadn’t given him a photo of Elise! 😂 Though I’m questioning where that was gotten 😅

If you were enjoying this series and wondered why it stopped for months; blame Mori- he, Kenji & Kunikida went missing and I’m planning to do Fukuzawa last so I couldn’t do anymore for a bit as it would muck up my flow 😅

Have a great rest of your day my lovelies!

This is my most favourite BSD Shelfie set up I’ve ever done 🥹

What’s your favourite part of the shelf?

Hello my lovelies! Happy Sunday! 🍁

I’m so glad I’ve finally done a reel to show how my shelves look now, I made the decision to mix the real life works in within the story, and I feel it represents a lot of what BSD is now 🥹 I’ve also added in little things that bring the story to life (the cello, wine, ramune etc- I love my little niknaks! 😂)

My favourite part is my Age 15/Chuuya shelf, I just find it really pleasing & with the Japanese version of his poems front facing 🥹

I will be added to this within the next week as for the first time in months I have a Japan order 😂 and within it are some highly anticipated acrylics so I’m excited to display them! Just need to find a spot now 🤣

As I did show in my stories, I’ve finally found the rest of my letters! And I can’t wait to do Mori’s on Tuesday! 🥹

Hope we’re having a lovely weekend ✨ stay cosy!

‘So much’ ✨ Dazai canonically finding his reason to live in Chuuya just 🤌🏻

I love how this manga adaption of Age 15 shows just how much Dazai is enraptured by Chuuya and I’m not just talking from a shipping perspective - that’s a whole separate point. It’s fact Chuuya was designed with Dazai in mind and that flows through their fictional bond with how he brings the light and warmth into Dazai’s life.

But also this moment shows as well how overboard this Dazai can be, the lack of boundary he has in just saying what he thinks in regards to Chuuya as well as later on when we see the effort he goes through to decorate the room for a welcome party for him. We know it doesn’t mean actual love and it’s part of their banter -but the way Dazai watches Chuuya through a lot of their scenes together, his specific panels in Age 15 in awe - we can see the life sparkle through him which we didn’t see in his scenes before they meet, in the boy that wanted to end it.

Also THE SPARKLES in their eyes and over the page - PLEASE THESE LONELY BOYS 😭✨

Hello, lovelies!

So- what did we think to yesterday’s chapter? 😅

Brief chat on BSD 118 below!✨

I’m so torn with how I feel as I know my judgment of the de*th bait is taking out my enjoyment of what’s actually happening in front of me, to the point where I don’t feel as much at all when I’m reading it 🥲 I want to trust Asagiri and I hope he follows some characters arcs properly like he did Bram’s which was perfectly sad & complete it’s just hard in the moment to feel as worried as I would with say AOT, Naruto & other series😭

A few of my points:

- I’m very interested in Fyodor finally having a conversation with Atsushi, part of me hopes Atsushi sees how similar Fyodor/Dazai are. But this conversation I’M READY FOR 🤌🏻

- We look to have more in terms of lore with Naomi- I wonder why it’s mentioned now of all times?? 👀 maybe she’s linked to something that will help later on or it’s for her protection it’s kept under wraps- weird place to put it if not!

I also wonder if Fukuzawa knows??

- Tetcho my beloved Hunting Dog is back 🥹 as long as he can stay safely where he is that’ll be grand 😂 Maybe as he’s done what was required he’s gone off to find Jouno 😅

- Kenji also looked so innocent and full of life to help 🥹 really hit home how young he is!

I wish the chapters weren’t a month apart, I’m sure it’ll read better as one, Asagiri is losing me a little with how fast we’re ’losing characters’ because we know we’ll be getting them back again by the end of the arc 😅

Another point I am loving RE Fyodor, is how he’s playing across everyone (and us as the reader) like we’re strings on his bow 😅

On a caveat thought I would show one of my favourite colour pages, I remember last year we all were so excited at the symbolism of Fyodor with his arm behind his back and Nikolai’s absent hand and what it could mean. I still think we have some more of this image (specifically Nikolai) to play out ✨

Have a great rest of your midweek my lovelies!

Hello my lovelies! Happy Tuesday 🍁

Have you read Witch Hat? ✨

What’s this, not a BSD post? And a new series appearing on my feed?! 🤣

I’ve been waiting since July to post my Witch Hat thoughts and here there are ✨

I’ve seen it around over the years and the covers/art-style always grabbed my attention but there was always a reason I said ‘not now’ and left it. I then found the urge to just give the chapter a try in July and four hours later (and well into the night) I realised I was hooked.

First off- Qifrey has absolutely taken my heart 🥺 I adore how multi layered he is, how kind he is, what a paternal figure he is - the love for his students he has is everything - just look how he looks at Coco in the last slide.

He also loves to cook (the cooking side stories PLZZZZ) which I love because I do too 🥹 His moral standpoint & his own past just adds so much to him too. He’s barely animated in the anime trailer but I’ve rewatched that lil snippet so much now to just see him 😂

He’s climbed into my all time favourites list - which feels huge to say- I really have adored his arc so far 💛

The world building is also so well crafted and Shirahama sensei really takes her time to open the door little by little to let you bask in it 🥹 The main girls all have their own drives and fight in them and I’m incredibly endeared to them all. Not to mention the fantastic rep within the series (disability, POC, neurodivergent.) There is also clear queer rep in the series which is just so lovely to read and see without debate 💛

The complexity of our characters decisions - four main children aside- it doesn’t shy away from politics or setting stakes and the harder choices that need to be made, especially where we are in the latest chapter.

Witch Hat has soared into my top 5 manga as the series stands currently; for the style, the world building and unforgettable characters it holds.

I don’t recommend series often, I am slow to start something new, but I can't express enough how GOOD this series is!

Roll on for the anime in 2025 🥹

Hello, my lovelies!

Happy Monday & Happy September🍁

Get up to anything nice over the weekend?

I’m so so excited for this time of year, it’s where my soul just comes alive from now til Christmas😭 the warming colours, the crunchy leaves, the food and darker evenings which are perfect for reading - it’s magical to me 🫶🏻

I’ve spent my weekend decorating for the autumn season and I’m nearly finished bar the wreath and our foliage up the stairs but it’s so pretty already 🥹 I’m UK based so autumn decor isn’t the norm here but the selection in shops has grown here recently! (nothing like the US though!)

I love this art of Chu, based on his outfit in the BSD Museum collab done by Harukawa in his brown coat - he wears it so well 🤌🏻 with the orange fish it just gives impeccable autumn vibes.
I’m going to be rereading his autumn poems throughout the month and I’m really excited to do so 🍁

Hope we’re having a good start to the week- take it easy lovelies!
