Oregon Country Fair @oregoncountryfair — Part 1

Entering the Fair

Before I tell you about my experience at the Oregon Country Fair — or #OCF, as everyone calls it —, I think I should explain what actually is.

It is a three-day celebration of music, theater, dance, circus, performance, visual arts, craftsmanship, food, community, creativity, and self-expression, held every summer in a beautiful wooded area near Veneta, #Oregon.

It began in 1969 as a small fundraising event for a children’s school and gradually evolved into the extraordinary cultural gathering it is today. Over the years, it has grown into a beloved Oregon tradition, bringing together tens of thousands of people and hundreds of performers, artists, craftspeople, volunteers, and community organizations.

But numbers don’t really explain what the Fair feels like.

The best way I can describe it is as a beautiful collision of music festival, outdoor theater, circus, folk celebration, art fair, camping adventure, and a little bit of magical madness — all happening among the trees.

There are stages hidden throughout the woods, musicians playing everywhere, theater and dance performances, elaborate costumes, puppets, acrobats, handmade art, food, workshops, community spaces, and people expressing themselves in ways that can be wonderfully unexpected.

It is colorful. It is artistic. It is eccentric. It is deeply communal. And, as I was soon going to discover, it is also a place where some sort of magic really happens. And that brings me to my own story.

My boyfriend, Anthony, is a true performer — an actor, multi-instrumentalist, musician, and creative artist in every sense of the word. So when he invited me to experience the Oregon Country Fair with him, I knew I was being invited into something very special
But I wasn’t going to experience it simply as a visitor. I was going to experience it from the inside, and from a rather privileged place at that: Anthony, together with a group of incredibly talented actors and musicians, would be part of the closing performance of this important Oregon tradition.
And, to make the experience even more special, I had the honor of becoming a very small part of

When High Step was asked to perform on OCF’s Main Stage on Friday night, we knew this was one of the most important opportunities of our entire careers, and we knew it meant going all out! 🍑✨🎷

The show was billed as “High Step and the Entire Society.” Our goal was simple: invite every badass we knew and ask them to come throw down with us. We put out the call, and the community answered. What happened that night had us in literal tears walking off the stage. The community that surrounds us is one of the most incredible groups of talented people, and we are forever in their debt.

✨💛✨Glow party on Saturday at @primaltones Venue was a dance party supreme. @theezel kept us hopping all night long. Our Queen, Alli Spencer, used her endless well of creativity with @__.tylerspencer.__ to transform the space into a glow-o-rama delight. Alli and Tyler know how to throw a badass themed party✨💛✨!! A silly, sweet time was had by one and all 😍🌼💛🎶✨ Thanks to all the adorable glow babes who came out to make it a memorable, delightful evening. @dixiedelish did face (and body)painting. There was a station set up for painting glow in the dark art, and paints and brushes to paint one another, so everyone could get their glow on. The fab ms. Veta @continuedproductions worked the door in glorious, glowing, yellow splendor. SO. MUCH. FUN.
Love all you goofy, adorable glow babes!!
Way to usher in the springtime at the coast:) #glowparty

I feel like I look older then. Maybe cuz I was sleeping 2 hrs a night in the back of a van, eating at truck stops.🤔

The band was @sepiatonic. 2 EDM producers + I played at music festivals. @j.a.m.e.s_h.o.n.e.y @theezel

It was completely unhinged + legendary.
I regret none of it, and had a damn blast.
How did I end up a pop singer in LA? Stick around- I share my Netflix-worthy backstory in bursts. 💅🏻

“Shadow & Tell” from my Paper-cut Shadow Puppet Class’ tell & show at the 2026 @freakdownfestival Back To School Talent Show. The main difference from past class performances was that the overhead projector and puppeteers were visible in front of the screen on stage, as opposed to hidden behind it (which many introvert puppeteers prefer). This setup allowed the audience to see the puppeteers in action, and in essence be behind the scenes with them. The puppeteers were also introduced, able to interact with the audience and thus associated with the puppets that they made and then manipulated, as opposed to the anonymity of being behind the screen. This years puppets were made by:
1. Water Puppet by @mardio660 with puppeteer assistance from @jenna_lucyinthesky 2. Naked Mole Rat by @manateaparty 3. Possums by @amyinautumn 4. Knight by @rosscanderson 5. Dragon by @unabarrettjewelry 6. Transparency cut out and overlap by @tytycascadia aka @tytypix . Movie clips taken from “The Art of Lottie Reiniger” 1970. Big Thank you to @homiesean_ for the screen and support and for birthing this event, @roottoblossom for the transparencies and encouragement, @ajd_one for telling me to do the talent show with what we had, @saku_creates for the support and sign up sheet, @oregoncoastschoolofart & @free_ceramics for hosting, @thegreatphildad for the videos from the back, @fancymeg for the possum video, all of the former shadow puppet students, the laughing audience members, and the other not yet mentioned hard working Freakdown production crew (@lacyltodd , @theezel, @yoyoyokita ) who put on Back to School and included Shadow Puppets in the Electives and the talent show all these years. ❤️🙏 TyTy. #shadowpuppets #puppets #shadowpuppetry #overheadprojector #papercuttingart
