The opening of Prospect 6 has been so amazing this past weekend! Congratulations to all of the artists. The work I have been able to see so far has been incredible. Thank you everyone who had come to see my work and thank you for all of the kind words and support.

“Ðinh’s practice aims to reclaim the rich heritage and unique identity of Vietnamese Americans. Raised in Southern cities with significant Vietnamese American populations—and now based in New Orleans—Ðinh’s upbringing has deeply influenced the exploration of his community’s diasporic identity. Commissioned for Prospect.6, Ðinh’s Trường Ca Mười Ngàn Năm (A Song of 10,000 Years) commemorates the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnamese community in the United States. Encompassing an entire room, the work melds influences from imperial Vietnamese aesthetics and cultural symbols tied to the Vietnamese American community in a space that articulates and honors the legacy of the diaspora.

This reverential space is sumptuously toned in red and gold, evoking the altar rooms at the imperial city of Hue in Vietnam, where royalty traditionally made offerings to their ancestors. Arranged in horizontal registers constructed from ceramic elements, the installation contains ceramic relief sculptures of horses, painted cloud motifs, and prayer-like poetic texts written by Ðinh. Together, the elements in Trường Ca Mười Ngàn Năm visually mark the journey, progression, and development of the Vietnamese American community, crafted from amalgamated cultural influences...”

Couple of highlights from 2023’s O What A Night Gala and live auction at the @ogdenmuseum

This event provides a way for artists to support the mission of the Ogden Museum which is to preserve the art of the American South. The proceeds help the museum continue its mission. I’m happy to be a part of it and support the Ogden.

My daughter and I got to see Greg's artwork in his show, LEAVING APPALACHIA:THE ART OF GREGORY B. SAUNDERS, on Sunday. It was inspiring and poetic. I love the way many of the clouds in his works of art seem to glow with light in contrast to the darkness around them. My daughter kept commenting on how many of your pieces looked like a photograph (even though they are powdered graphite). Thank you so much for presenting such a great show. If anyone hasn't seen it, you are missing out.

Join us tonight for “An Evening with Justin Hiltner” from 6 to 8 p.m.

Justin Hiltner, a queer, disabled banjo player, songwriter, and music writer known from the podcast, Dolly Parton's America has been nominated for Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year, Writer of the Year, and Collaborative Recording of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (@intlbluegrass).

“An Evening with Justin Hiltner” is presented in conjunction with Gregory Saunders' (@thefinestmaster) exhibition, “Leaving Appalachia: The Art of Gregory B. Saunders.” In addition to the music of Justin Hiltner, the program will feature a conversation between Hiltner and Saunders around Appalachian culture, identity and the power of storytelling, both visual and musical, moderated by Museum Curator, Bradley Sumrall (@bradleysumrall).
