$I've had enough. After years of investing my time, money, & creativity into @facebook & @instagram, I've decided to move my social media to @thefotoapp. I've spent years building an audience of nearly 10,000 followers. I've spent thousands on ads to grow that audience. Yet the people who CHOSE to follow me may never see my work. Let that sink in. People followed me because they wanted to see my pics. Why should a platform decide whether they're allowed to? I'm tired of spending 2 or 3 hrs. producing a Reel, editing every detail, only for it to reach a fraction of my intended audience. I'm tired of curating Carousels while wondering whether they're even worth posting unless I collaborate with others. When did sharing photographs become a game of pleasing an algorithm? Then there's the advertising. I've already invested thousands in growing my audience, yet boosting posts increasingly feels like paying a toll just to reach the people who already follow me. Advertising has its place. But paying for visibility shouldn't feel like the price of admission. Here's the other thing: I'M A PHOTOGRAPHER. I love creating photographs. Instagram built its identity around photography, only to increasingly prioritize video to compete for attention. I understand the business reasons, but photographers shouldn't have to become video creators just to remain visible. Video is for @youtube. Photography is my passion. Enter Foto. A photography-focused platform with a chronological feed, no algorithm deciding the order of your posts, no video, & Portfolios that let photographers mirror their websites through curated galleries. No chasing trends. No turning every photograph into a Reel. No trying to reverse-engineer an algorithm just to share my work. Is Foto perfect? Not yet. But its philosophy aligns with the way I believe photography should be shared.
