"People We Used To Be" was the lead single from The Swell Season's third album, Forward (2025)—their first new record in 16 years since its predecessor, Strict Joy (2009). Written by Markéta Irglová, it feels like a statement of intent across the eight tracks that make up the album: "coming to terms with the end of an era and allowing ourselves to mourn the people we used to be, whilst choosing to fight for the person we love and the life we built with them," Markéta explained during the promotional period.

"People We Used To Be" fue el primer single del tercer álbum de The Swell Season: Forward (2025).

Sing these songs alone at home reminds me the reason I started to write and compose my own music.
Saturday I’ll bring with me this kind of energy… who’ll be there???

🇮🇹 cantare queste canzoni a casa da solo mi ricorda perché ho iniziato a scrivere e comporre musica originale.
Sabato porterò dal vivo questo tipo di energia…. Chi ci sarà???

Back in 2020/2021 when we weren’t allowed out of our houses, I started a series which I called Stranger Tunes.

This one was Episode 17 and features artists from England, Sweden, Northern Ireland and USA, all of whom are massive @theframesofficial / Glen Hansard / @swellseasonofficial @marketa_irglova fans.

In the vast majority of cases none of the artists knew each other (hence the ‘stranger’ bit) and no one knew before the video came out who else was in their ‘band’.

The series included musicians at all levels; from those who’d never played outside of their bedrooms before, to tour-hardened musicians from bands such as Pearl Jam, Boomtown Rats, Blossoms, Levellers, Carter USM etc.

This one - another of Glen Hansard’s beautiful songs - features @emjhampson @mayamccourt @russ.scagell @josh_hampson_sound @steveamadeobass and Beth Balmer and was mixed by @theoldciderpress
The full length - properly shaped - video can be found on my YouTube channel.
