Reclaiming My Time Tour 2024
Another year around the sun. A year of being abysmal at regular posting on socials through a sea of tremendous change. Grateful to be alive and thankful that blacketh don’t cracketh. Backpost bae is back at it!

After Covid rudely upstaged my birthday in 2020, I vowed that I would reclaim my time every birthday and celebrate by intentionally putting my own joy first to honor my personal growth and resilience through the year prior. I highly recommend this practice to everyone.

This year I celebrated by snacking and skating by the water, swimming and submerging in a heated pool / hot tub, and going on an eco conscious swamp boat tour, while surrounded by loving and supportive community (dog inclusive) in absolutely perfect sunny weather (aka a bunch of things that truly make me happy). No notes. The older I get the more joy I receive from the little things and the freedom to just be.

The past year was particularly challenging and I had to work through alot of letting go to forge a space for myself to be in better alignment in order to show up as my highest self. Things have been chaotic at best and so much is uncertain presently, but every time I have stepped off a ledge into the unknown lately, the universe / the ancestors have scooped me up and deposited me some place better than I could have even imagined. This is how I’ve learned to trust that evolution comes in waves.

The last time I had a Nola bday in 2021, days before my birthday I had a powerful dream in which I saw my childhood self standing by a rocky shore and quickly pulled her up to safety just as a massive wave threatened to sweep her up. This year I want to master riding the wave.

Im just getting started and it’s only up from here.

"Artists are the gatekeepers of truth. We are civilization’s radical voice,"
—Paul Robeson

As we celebrate Black History Month, we are reminded of the profound role art has played (and continues to play) in the journey of Black Americans throughout history—especially given that this year's theme for BHM is “African Americans and the Arts.”

That's why we're especially excited to spotlight eight remarkable Black creators from Artwork Archive's community!

Your vibrant expressions, groundbreaking achievements, and profound impact on both art and society reflect a rich legacy of resilience, creativity, and innovation.

You serve as change agents through your art to speak truth to power. You use art as a form of resistance, expression, and healing. You remind us of the importance of celebrating Black History Month—a time to acknowledge the struggles, achievements, and contributions of Black individuals throughout history.

This is a period for reflection on the progress made towards racial equality, and a reminder of all the work that still needs to be done.

Thank you, artists, for continuing to share your passions, your triumphs, and your artwork with the world.

👑 Celebrate the spectrum of excellence with us and tag your favorite Black artists and creators in the comments below (even if that's yourself 😉)

Beyond celebrating through art, here are more ways to honor Black History Month:
🖤 Educate Yourself
🖤 Donate to Black Organizations
🖤 Support Black-Owned Businesses
🖤 Uplift Black Voices
🖤 Know That It's More Than a Month
