Super fun night at the always bustling @thegallerynw6 in West Hampstead 🖼️ 🍻 🍔 🍾 🍲

With many teams battling out on a hotly contested evening only one of them could emerge victorious.
Pulling ahead of the others and claiming top spot were team
‘Big Vape Queens’ 👑
They bagged the £50 food and drink voucher.

It was also ‘Big Vape Queens’ 👸 who secured the chance to win the mega cash jackpot!
Although they couldn’t quite secure the cash they did leave happily with a free bottle of wine 🍷 😊

See you next week when the cash jackpot is a whopping £200!!! 💥 😮 💷 🎰 💥
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Book club reviews are not for faint-hearted authors. You get your work read, but art what cost?

First, some of the nicer things we thought about The Makoto Murders by Richard Jerram - then the critiques, which comevwith some spoilers.

Likes: cover, hook, setting, well-written prose with some lovely descriptors, refreshingly irredeemable guy brings unique horror

SPOILERS AHEAD - honest critiques
Not so good elements:
Character same as American Psycho
Judge plotline went nowhere
Dream sequences interesting but ultimately under-delivered
Friend Verity could have had much more impact
Ending felt forced and hurried, unrealistic
Other POV characters would have been interesting - murderer was delusional, so we never really got any explanations for anything, or even what was real.

In short, this one had potential but it didn’t quite deliver.

Always a pleasure to host at the wonderful @thegallerynw6 and we had a lot of new teams on Wednesday night! ‘Older but not wiser’ were only wrong about their team name, taking the title by a whopping 7 points! In the jackpot round, second placed ‘The Fielder Method’ played for £200. With just 4 envelopes left…they won wine! 🤦🏻‍♂️ THREE envelopes left now- will it go next week? Only one way to find out! 😉

It took a MASSIVE score to take Wednesday’s @thegallerynw6 quiz title- with 5 teams over 90 points!
The Fielder Methal (we think that’s the team name- their quizzing is way better than their handwriting! 🤣) scored a whopping 103 points to take top spot!
In the jackpot round, and after a stewards enquiry due to some shocking maths from host Mark, it was the Badabings who played for the cash. With only 5 envelopes left, they missed the £200, but they did win a bottle of wine.
4 envelopes left now- boom early if you want a chance to win it! 😉

A whopping FOURTEEN TEAMS took on the trivia test that is the @thegallerynw6 quiz, with quite a few newbies and regulars too!
It was tight at the top, but in the end ‘In loving memory of Stanislav’ won by a couple of points!
In the jackpot round ‘Billy’s Angels’ (yep, he’s the absolutely gorgeous pup in the second photo) played for the chance at £200. With only 5 envelopes left, they MISSED the cash…but they did get themselves a bottle of wine- not bad!
Just 4 envelopes remain- please book early for next week- we just about squeezed everyone in tonight, so make sure you secure your spot!

We love a packed quiz night @thegallerynw6 and that’s exactly what we got this Wednesday! Team ‘Stags (who are slags)’ beat some regular heavyweights to take the tab.

First timers ‘Raise your hand if you want to be our friends’ got closest to the jackpot answer and drew for £200. The jackpot is yet to be claimed, but they won a bottle of wine. Congrats!

That means next week we’re down to five envelopes and the £200 is begging to be won! Book a table and we’ll see you there!

A whopping 14 teams took on the @luckycowquizco trivia test at the @thegallerynw6 on Wednesday night, and just taking top spot by a couple of points were ‘Grace’s two front teeth’ with a magnificent 101 points!
In the jackpot round, birthday boy Jack and his team ‘Dakoo Fiwgueys Poop’ (we don’t know either 🤣) we’re closest to the jackpot answer…but it was wine and not cash in the envelope they opened! That means £200 and just 6 envelopes left next week, so get your table booked for the best quiz night in town!

A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L Peck is a novella about an infinite-library hell specific to a set of white Americans born within a few decades of each other, who share a connection to books.

The book raises many philosophical questions, which readers appreciated, piquing their interest for further reading.

A large theme is the difference between infinite & unimaginably large finite.

Another is what does one do when faced with the realisation that you chose the wring god?

Most seemed to enjoy this - notably except those who had studied maths/philosophy or read the Library of Babel.

There’s some amusing “demon-banter” in the Prologue, before a complete switch to a largely-sober tone for the remainder.

The nearly-infinite library hell, the demon tells our protagonist, is escapable. But as one of us noted,
“I don’t necessarily think the demon is a reliable source.”

Plenty of philosophical debate-starters here, but there’s a chance you’ll get to the end feeling there’s little new, unsure what the point was.

Overall, people enjoyed it and frlt it pushed them out if their reading comfort zone.

“Yes, heaven would be as full of difference as Hell was of sameness.”
“Finite doesn’t mean much if you can’t tell any practical difference between it and infinite.”
