38 🎂 a full day with @lewisfisher10, having @gigisitaliankitchen tiramisu in person (lew has brought me home a piece every year they’ve been open, so finally getting to experience it in restaurant was extra special!), birthday brunch at @thegeneralmuir, and an unreal pre-birthday brunch at summerland with my next door neighbor and birthday twin @patelier_x. all in all, feeling pretty great about starting a new year and some excellent new adventures

Heyyy yalll onmyfoodieshit has been so busy with life but I’m trying to get back to frequent posting…well my parents visited me in ATL last weekend and we had the most amazing series of eats which motivated me even more to make a post..let’s get into it 🍽️

1. I took them to The General Muir for lunch which never disappoints…I ordered matzoh ball soup, chopped liver, a smoked trout bagel, and a cubano espresso..ultimate savory girl lunch and absolutely bomb 🥯

2. My parents love BBQ so I had to take em to Fox Bros.. I got their seasonal ATL lemon pepper wings, fried pickles, and Brunswick stew 🍲🍗

3. Homegrown! I’ve heard a lot about this place and it’s on the Michelin guide so we tried it together! My dad and I were both blown away by the chicken and biscuit 🐓 🍳

4. Breakfast Cuban sandwich from Madre Garcia’s at the piedmont park Saturday green market 🧺…obsessed

5-6. I took us to Miller Union for dinner, which is on the Michelin guide so I’ve been wanting to try it! And lemme tell you I was extremely impressed..👌 we ordered the cornmeal fried okra + vegetables for an appetizer and I ordered the trout for dinner 🐠

7. I took us to a spot that I love, Cafe Intermezzo for dessert! I tried the peaches and cream torte with an espresso martini 🍸

8-9. Last but definitely not least I wanted us to try another ATL southern breakfast staple—Silver Skillet 🍳 I ordered the southern breakfast (fried pork chop, eggs, biscuit) (AMAZING) and we tried their famous lemon icebox pie, which def is worth the hype 🥧

Overall, 1000/10 weekend of ATL eats, love this city

Lately I’ve been craving a really good soup-and-sandwich combo, and The General Muir might have one of my favorites in Atlanta.

My dad’s all-time craving was always a fat pastrami sandwich on rye or pumpernickel, so apparently that gene got passed down to me. 😂 Growing up, he’d take me to California-style delis like Katella Deli in Los Alamitos.

The General Muir gives me that same comfort-food feeling, just with more of a New York-style deli approach.

My wife and I both went with the soup + half sandwich:

🥣 Matzah ball soup
🥪 Corned beef Reuben with sauerkraut, Russian dressing and Swiss on grilled rye
🥒 Dill pickle — because according to my wife, bread-and-butter pickles have no place here 😂
🥔 Deli-style potato salad

And that potato salad got me thinking…

Jewish deli-style or Southern-style potato salad?

The bread might be my favorite part of TGM, though. They took the bread program seriously enough to build out their own bakery operation, and now I’m regularly grabbing a sourdough loaf to take home.

It might be my favorite sourdough in Atlanta.

Sometimes you don’t need the newest restaurant in town. You just need a great sandwich, a bowl of soup and a place that knows exactly what it does well.
