Ten years ago, in 2016, I began working with @spectorbooks in Leipzig on Memories of the Moon Age. Since then, our collaboration has grown across ten books, in different roles and constellations, but always with a shared understanding of what a book can be.

Publishing, for me, is a form of curating. Ideas take shape through the relationships between text, image, sequence, material and design. This is what I have always valued about Spector Books: content and design are equal partners in how knowledge is communicated. Intellectual inquiry and aesthetic experience belong together.

Perhaps this is also why, despite everything supposedly becoming faster and more immaterial, I remain so attached to books. They ask for time: to make them, to hold them, to move through them, and sometimes to return to them years later and discover that they have changed because we have.

Ten years later, we are returning to the Moon. An extended second edition of Memories of the Moon Age will be published by Spector Books this fall.

And congratulations to @spectorbooks on 25 years of publishing. Very happy to have shared ten of them with you.

🏛 On 5 July 2026, the DigitalFUTURES 2026 Awarding Ceremony was held at Zhongting Hall, CAUP, Tongji University. Under the theme “Architecture: How to Be Reborn?”, this year‘s event brought together architects, researchers, and practitioners to explore the future of architecture in the age of AI and human-machine collaboration.

To recognise outstanding contributions to digital architecture, the committee presented five awards:

▫️DigitalFUTURES Award — honours a transformative contribution (research, tool, or work) that has expanded the digital future of architecture. Nominated by the Committee, Local Organising Committee, and Fellows.
▫️Coding Award — recognises an innovative digital tool (code, plug-in, or software) that is publicly accessible and well-documented. Open to nominations from the DigitalFUTURES community.
▫️Young Award — celebrates early-career scholars, practitioners, or educators (normally within 10 years of first bachelor’s degree) for outstanding contributions to digital design and robotic fabrication.
▫️Project Award — acknowledges a project completed in the past three years that demonstrates significant impact through digital technology, from installations to urban design.
▫️ARI Best Paper Award — presented by the journal Architectural Intelligence, recognising three studies on spatial structure, architectural knowledge retrieval, and urban walkability.

Project Award | Co-poiesis

Co-poiesis transforms trees felled by Typhoon Bebinca in Shanghai in 2024 into architectural components. Through surface charring, 3D scanning, AI-assisted material matching and robotic fabrication, irregular salvaged timber was assembled into the Charred Timber Pavilion. The project also incorporates digital-twin-assisted assembly and interactive humanoid robots that respond to music and human movement. Beyond material reuse, it explores new relationships among natural resources, intelligent machines and human creativity.

🚨AFTERHOURS RETURNS🚨

Join us for an AfterHours talk with Richard The (@readyletsgo) this Wednesday at our New York studio.

Richard is a partner at the interdisciplinary design studio @thegreeneyl. He previously worked as a Designer at Sagmeister Inc. and Creative Director at @google Creative Lab.

Richard is a designer and artist whose work investigates the aesthetic and cultural implications of technology on society. His projects are media-agnostic, ranging from graphic design, to user interfaces to immersive installations. His most recent work explores image datasets as the foundation of crucial systems we interact with everyday, such as cultural and academic institutions, generative AI and surveillance algorithms.

Richard is an Assistant Professor of Interaction Design at Parsons School of Design and the director of the MS Data Visualization program. He has previously taught at MIT, NYU and SVA. Richard has an MFA in Visual Communication from the University of the Arts Berlin, and a Master of Science from MIT Media Lab.

IMS BAUHAUS at the Venice Architecture Biennale

Our team recently visited the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale and truly appreciate NECTO — a lightweight, 3D-knitted anticlastic membrane installation redefining what tensile structures can achieve.

•⁠ Computational form-finding translated into an elegant anticlastic geometry
•⁠ ⁠A 100 m² membrane produced from 12 knitted pieces in only 40 hours
•⁠ ⁠Ultra-lightweight: just 38.5 kg
•⁠ ⁠95% biodegradable materials supporting circular, low-impact construction
•⁠ ⁠A multi-sensory spatial experience through integrated lighting and sound.

NECTO is a powerful demonstration of where tensile membrane architecture is heading — smarter, lighter, and more sustainable.

Very grateful to have made my contribution to Necto, working with the TheGreenEyl @thegreeneyl team on experience design, together with SO-IL @solidobjectives and Dr. Mariana Popescu & Lab @maadpope Necto - a 3D-knitted, biodegradable media architecture exploring lightness, intelligence, and the interplay between craft and computation. The generative light and sound animations play with the tension between craft and algorithm, nature and technology.
