Here is a photo dump from the last month to tell you that I’m super excited for this weekend! 🇮🇩💙🥹

I started DJing under the alias TIRTA, four years ago, as a nod to my Indonesian heritage - tirta meaning holy water in Javanese Sanskrit. It is super fitting as it not only my government name but I LOVE blue…clearly! 💙

Thank you @lukasdesigns for making me some super cute graphics, which is the Javanese Sanskrit version of my name.

With that in mind, this weekend feels like a full circle moment as I am DJing for PESTA MERDEKA, organised by @serumpun.kolektif ! On the 17th Aug it is Indonesian Independence Day, celebrating 80 years of freedom from colonial rule 🇮🇩 I am unbelievably gassed and grateful to be able to celebrate and represent my heritage for such a special and historic day, aaaa!!!

This is also my first international booking and I will be venturing there with some of my ultimate best friends from @halfeastrecords 🫶🏼

Before Sunday I’ll be making some stop offs:
14/08 - 8pm : @loose.fm for a @halfeastrecords takeover w/ @deejaynye (vinyl set)
15/08 - 7pm (gmt) : @radio.temponaopara for another @halfeastrecords takeover w/ @deejaynye + @pan.de.laang (bringing budots + funkot to Netherlands 🤪)
15/08 : @jiwajiwa.amsterdam at @cafe_warung_pas , (vinyl/digital)
17/08 : PESTA MERDEKA @serumpun.kolektif at @hetdorp.amsterdam

Teri Makasih banyakkkk, this is such a dream xx

it’s been a couple weeks since we released grunt issue 3, and after a lot of work recently, I only just got the chance to sit down to read it front to back. Maybe I’m still caught up in the emotion and pride I feel for this issue, but it brought a tear to my eye at what something like this can achieve.

For me, the whole purpose of art is to connect. I, like many others, have been shaped by others putting themselves out there in writing, film, photography, music. So to work at a platform where we can see other artists putting their work forward, how they got there, where they’re going, couldn’t make me happier. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this issue. Whether it’s a 5 second flick through in a pub or a 30 minute read in a cafe, the connections we form are priceless. It’s too easy to forget that.
