Journalist, Blind Date fan. Resident matchmaker @lonelyheartsclub_uk Fifth novel THE GLORIOUS DEAD out now. Please buy my books, they are my pension.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Issue 10 of The Lonely Hearts Club is here!

@theguyliner is back, bringing a widow and a widower together in the name of romance. Will it be a second chance at love? We do love a hopeful ending.

Our beloved agony aunt Ms. Penny Lane has some thoughts on board games, and why they ought to come with the same warning labels as cigarette packets. Consider game night officially on notice.

Our little corner of the romantic universe has made it all the way to Canada! You can now find us at the lovely @elalmacenyerbamatecafe in Toronto, thanks to the amazing folks @photoedmagazine!

We got to sit down with @jak_th for an exclusive interview about his new podcast, which has one of the most beautiful names imaginable. Great minds, and all that.

And, of course, there are new personal ads from our wondrous members, who continue to delight, surprise and occasionally alarm us. Would we have it any other way?

Head to the link in bio to download now!

Almost a week late, but I’ve been moving house, forgive me!

All The Other Mothers Hate Me, Sarah Harman ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - this is both very silly and very dark. It’s also a lot more of a thriller than the marketing suggests! I raced through it in a day, so it’s clearly doing something right

Annie Knows Everything, @rachelwouldnt ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - this was a recommendation from the incomparable @sarra_manning and I’m so glad I took it. A beautifully fun romance, with a deep vein of family running through it. Plus relationship conflicts that are repeatedly sorted out through healthy communication, which we LOVE to see. And some very sexy sex scenes. Big recommend.

Started but not finished:
The Odyssey, read with glorious aplomb by Claire Danes
The Glorious Dead by @theguyliner

Issue 09 is officially out in the wild!

And what a beautiful issue it is! We have poetry, pheromones, gothic literature and a supreme selection of ads!

- our magical matchmaker @theguyliner returns with a pairing who sound perfect, just perhaps not for each other.

- we interview @lukesaunderssss to find out all about his incredible Lighthouse project which connects souls all over the world through the power of poetry.

- we publish the last ever known text written by no other but Edgar Allan Poe.

- the world's slowest social network is back and looking for our darling M in, of all places, the toiletries aisle?!?!

All, of course, acting as a perfect pairing for the stars of the show: our personal ads. Once again providing far more entertainment than they have any right to, and somewhere in the middle of it all, somebody is offering a FREE HOLIDAY ON A PRINCESS.

It’s a boat.

Issue 09 is available now via the link in bio.

Come for the personals. Stay for the pheromones.

ALL THE LOVE,
LHC

“It never crosses your mind that, already, you’ve done something for the last time.” An absolute gem of a novel from @theguyliner - instantly quippy, witty and irreverent, but with so much soul and heart and complexity. It’s a book about grief, its aftermath, and our struggle with unfinished narratives and unreliable narrators. The characters are all brilliantly drawn, the plotting impeccable - various pennies will drop at differing points depending on the reader, but the foreboding is evident. Revelations are unpredictable but totally logical. Nobody is perfect. In short: a book I already want to go back and read-read now I know the full story.
Oh, and as a single gay man in his (early) forties, so much of this hit home: how we’re perceived, and how we imagine ourselves to be. Acutely observed.

Issue 08 is here!

Packed, as ever, with cats, aristocats, questionable behaviour, romantic chaos, and a few things we probably shouldn’t try to explain, this is an extremely special one for everyone at LHC HQ, not least because we got to pick the brains of the undisputed royalty of the classifieds, @longlostpersonals! We don't do favourites at the LHC but this interview is one for the archive (indulge me)...

Whether you’ve yet to buy your first issue or have collected every single one to date, do us all a favour and download Issue 08 immediately via the link in bio.

And if you needed any more convincing:

- @theguyliner is back with another round of romantic matchmaking, this time choosing pure chaos. A man after our own heart, naturally.

- Ms Penny Lane uncovers yet another questionable individual who is in desperate need of a little telling-off.

- And we’ve got our first, very unofficial statistic, because apparently we’ve reached the point where counting love letters constitutes a legitimate research method. Someone pinch us.

And, of course, there’s our greatest, grandest and most glorious new curation of personal ads, seasoning this issue to absolute perfection.

We’re stupendously biased, obviously, but Issue 08 really is a treat.

For anyone.

Full stop.

ALL THE LOVE,
LHC

Spotted some more books in my local #library ! (Obviously I see books there all the time, but these are by authors I have met.)

If you're an author - do you like readers letting you know when they spot your books in the wild?

Issue 07 is fresh off the press and ready to be devoured by your feasting eyes!

We've got the most beautiful issue bound behind our Sol and Luna Cover because, obviously, its Summer and we're just creative like that.

In all seriousness, this month's paper contains a suspiciously compatible match courtesy of our resident cupid @theguyliner, more sage wisdom from Ms. Penny Lane, a short story by the literary legend that was Quiz, a small but important reminder to make proper use of your membership number, and a fresh helping of personal ads that continue to restore our faith in humanity.

If you've ordered a print copy, keep one eye on the letterbox and another on the letter that you must be writing to our extraordinary curation of human beings that curate themselves. What a testament to our collective humanity!

And if you happen to see Issue 07 out in the world, we'd be awfully pleased if you took a snap and tagged us here on the gram of Instas.

As always, all the thanks to our pristine printers @newspaperclub.

ALL THE LOVE,
LHC
