Renovating 827 year old Scottish Castle (into a hotel) with my brother, opening soon!?

There are hotels where you quietly check in. Then there’s @houseofgodshotel where you arrive to branded Prosecco and check in underneath a huge disco ball. And you immediately know this is going to be different.

House of Gods has landed in Canary Wharf inside a big golden cube, surrounded by the impressive skyscrapers of the financial district. I knew the first time I met @thehautelier that I would love anything he created, so I was delighted to experience his very latest project.

Great soundtracks play throughout, the interiors are unapologetically theatrical and the staff are recruited for their personality. Need I say more? The whole hotel is a stage.

I was invited to stay in The Suite, with its super king canopy bed, spectacular Canary Wharf views, sumptuous fabrics and burgundy tiled bathroom with a bath for two. Of course, a hotel like this deserved at least four dress changes and four hats.

I was treated to the Treat Me Like I’m Famous experience, complete with more Prosecco, rose petals, balloons, chocolates, Millionaires cocktails delivered to the door, a bar tab and midnight milk and cookies straight from the butler. Yes, really.

But it’s the atmosphere that stays with you. House of Gods naturally attracts interesting people, so drinks at the bar or in the Champagne Lounge become a continuation of the party.

Dinner was in the Sacred Garden where sea bass ceviche was a revelation. And breakfast? Heavenly. Probably the best matcha I’ve ever had, and the ricotta pancakes were divine.

House of Gods isn’t trying to be understated. It’s designed for people who want their hotel stay to be entertaining. I already want to return to play again.

Mike, you’ve done it again ❤️❤️ Claire

I’ve been slow to share this one, but the creative for Leith Social Club from last year was a cracking project to be part of. Tam O’ Shanter pub at the bottom of Leith Walk, a change of hands, and a blank canvas. The concept was late 80’s into early 90s… and creating a time-capsule brand that feels like history, but looks like now. Visually we leaned into nostalgic artwork, 90’s editorial layouts, Acid House smileys, Hacienda hazard stripes, a Burberry pool table, type styled on Neville Brody’s era at The Face magazine and distinctly retro colours – all built as a homage to the subcultures of that era.

All of the work across brand design, web design, artwork & production was tackled pre-launch in a quick turnaround, alongside the fit-out before the Oasis fuelled Fringe frenzy coming to town.

Belter of a project!

p.s that’s Bez from Happy Mondays 😄
