🙏Steven King and Conde Nast Traveller 🥹

Here’s to my heroes!

In 1978 @anouskahempeldesign opened Blakes in London, the world’s first boutique hotel. With velvet and intrigue she turned hospitality into theatre. Suddenly a hotel wasn’t just a bed for the night.

In 1995, @jacquesgarciaofficiel gave us Hôtel Costes in Paris. It wasn’t just a hotel it was a cultural moment where design, music, fashion and collided. Costes became a lifestyle and its influence echoed across the globe.

I visited their hotels. I cut out every picture I could find and I marvelled at their ability to create whole worlds from imagination.

I’ve never met either of them but they shaped me more than they’ll ever know.

And when Conde Nast placed House of Gods in their company, it was one of the proudest moments of my life.

“It’s all Gucci.”

“Back in 2019, while we were building House of Gods Edinburgh, I knew the bar had to hit different. You can’t call your Hotel House of Gods and paint the bar magnolia! I was obsessed with those grand, chinoiserie wallpapers you’d see in old stately homes, but it needed attitude. It needed to be way more rock ‘n’ roll.

Then I found this Gucci wallpaper. Iconic, glorious but so expensive! I actually had to sell my car to buy it!

People told me it was mad, but I knew guests would love it, I kind of think it in some way helped make House of Gods what it is today.

Was it worth it? I would love to know?”
