From crocodile skin and fur to silk and exotic hides, fashion has long treated animals as raw materials. But with advances in material science, do we really need to rely on animals to create beautiful things?

A 2022 report by the Material Innovation Initiative identified 95 companies developing next-generation alternatives to animal-derived materials, with $2.3 billion invested in the sector between 2015 and the end of 2021. From plant-derived textiles to mycelium-based materials, new possibilities are emerging.

Designers and brands have the opportunity to challenge what luxury looks like and create products that don’t depend on animal exploitation. We don’t have to choose between creativity and compassion.

The future of fashion can be built on innovation, without making another life pay the price.

This shouldn’t be controversial ✊🏼

I’m working with @thehumaneleague to educate people in Cincinnati and beyond about animal cruelty and how we can help. 🐔

Kroger promised in 2016 to go 100% cage-free by 2025. Instead, they scaled the goal back to about 70% by 2030, with no plan to finish the job.

As a Cincinnati girl, I want better from our hometown grocer. Do you? Let’s help!!

👉 Email Kroger at krogerdoesntcare.com
👉 Or comment below: @krogerco keep your cage-free promise!
