Had an incredible time in Vermont last week at @chorocamp getting to play with so many old and new friends. Third year attending but first time at this new beautiful campus AND first time that I wasn’t the only person coming up from Georgia (shoutout @bigearberry @estelapattyboop @soundfed for making the trip up with me💥💥)! Still recovering from an intense week of playing tunes and learning once again that I have a lot to learn 🙂‍↕️enlightening as always, and so happy to be able to bring back the inspiration and growth to our small but developing choro scene in Atlanta. Very grateful for @andrewlawrence289 for putting this insane event together, and bringing people and exemplary musicians into one place to share a week of creativity and passion for this beautiful music. See you around and if you haven’t yet, come hear some choro in Atlanta!

P.S. I was careful with my thumb all week, didn’t play as much as I would have otherwise but I did get a bit of a break playing this really beautiful tenor guitar that may or may not have made its way back down with me… 🤫

This week at the school! Still on break from our east side class but if you come out early on Wednesday we’ll teach you whatever you wanna know!

Special guest artist @noah_wolfe_reed @riffs.216 for our tertulia series! Twice a month we get together to celebrate music in community and the joy of being a creative being in this world.

It’s hard to know why we’re here at all but my gut says it ain’t working to death for the profit of someone who already has more than enough. We all need money (desperately 😭) but we also need somewhere and some way to make something. Just because it feels good, not because it’s marketable!

These events are meant to bring musicians and dancers back together and remember how to enjoy music in and for community. What remains, when the question turns from ticket sales to neighborhood impact? People may travel to NY and Nashville and New Orleans for a concert or a certain venue, but when I consider what it actually means to be a “music city” my mind goes more to the performers on the subway or in the street. Walking by some nondescript housing only to hear people practicing inside.

In my opinion it’s not about what big acts can be seen in which big stadiums… it’s about how people value the sounds of their own city that heals the most.

It’s one thing I miss most about New York! Even the most curmudgeonly of crusty elder will stop their walk to sit on a bench and listen for a minute; maybe it’s a jazz duo from the schools or Colin on his Washington park baby grand, if the people of a city appreciates their artists then the artists keep making art and folks all over get to benefit from that respect 🤷‍♀️ m

TUES —> no classsss @the_treelawn end-of-summer break stay tuned for our triumphant return!

WED —> freeeee 7-10pm tertulia @riffs.216 we’ve got the house band playing live tango and @noah_wolfe_reed sharing some of his own music with us!

NEW SONG “TEL AVIV”

I was not in Israel when Hamas attacked on October 7.

A few months later, I returned to Tel Aviv: city I had called home for more than 20 years. It was immediately clear that everything had changed.

Two years later, I wrote this song.

“Tel Aviv” is a personal love letter to a city changed by war—a song about resilience, identity, and hope. It is deeply personal, but I believe many can find themselves in its lyrics and message.

🎵 Click the link in my bio to listen to the song or watch the music video on the platform of your choice.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

I want to thank all the people that contributed their talent:

Produced and arranged by Shmulik Daniel
Guitars- Itamar Meiri
Drums and Bass- Shmulik Daniel
Cello- Hanna Benjamin
Violin and Viola- Lara Dudack
String arrangement recorded in Akron OH by Benjamin Payne.
Mixed and mastered by Shmulik Daniel Hook Studio
Music video editor- Eyar Ouziel

Lots of love,

Shabbat Shalom ❤️
