What's going on here? We're signing an MOU because the @theicod International Council of Design is moving its secretariat to Vilnius, Lithuania.

You know those stories where someone quietly does good for others, and then, when it really matters, all that good comes back as help and support?

This secretariat relocation situation was exactly the one in which I suddenly saw how rich I am in partners, friends and colleagues who said “yes” to this idea and together became a consortium: design schools, a museum, tech companies, a hotel and public agencies, each offering a different part of what an international organisation needs to live and work in a city. That mix is what made our proposal strong: not one big sponsor, but a real ecosystem that can support everyday operations, events, research and digital infrastructure.

This could only happen because Lithuania and Vilnius have grown in confidence and ambition – we are ready not just to host design events, but to help shape what design means for the world.

For ICoD, choosing Vilnius means working close to real geopolitical and social change, in a fast‑moving creative and tech hub, instead of watching from a safe distance.

For Lithuania and Vilnius, it is a chance to turn local strengths into international standards, education models and policy practices that can improve everyday life, here and elsewhere.

If you care about design, cities or simply better futures, you are welcome to be part of this – as a partner, collaborator or curious neighbour following what happens next from Vilnius.

💥 We had a blast during European Design Awards - 3 days of workshops, lectures, and open doors. And we'd do it all over again.

The event gave us a chance to meet old friends and make new ones, discover new perspectives, and be reminded why this work matters. Thanks to everyone involved - you truly made these days unforgettable.

Is it too early to think about the next event or...?
