Thinking of refugees tonight. Ukrainian citizens fleeing. African students trying to flee Ukraine and facing racism at Ukraine’s borders instead.

I know these thoughts are not comfortable ones. Our world tends to romanticize white refugees and demonize black and Brown refugees. To deny that is to deny what we witnessed in our own country at the Mexican border. We know the truth. And so we have to look it in the eyes and reckon with it, and we need to do better.

I believe in empathy. Empathy for the Ukrainian citizens desperately fleeing. Empathy for the African students desperately trying to flee.

Instead of making excuses for the inexcusable, we can choose love and truth and change. We can offer a hand.

I believe in us. Our hearts are big enough.

“The news media coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a landline of micro-aggressions that illuminate the global racist pathology among fluorescent pale ppl” quote caption @amandaseales

Even @itvnews found time to insert racism in their reportage…

By way of @amandaseales
・・・
If you even attempt to suggest that these are, "just a couple people and not a general sentiment", stop typing. Your micro is not on a macro level.

It ain’t liberation if we can’t all have it y’all! Posted @withregram • @theignantintellectual Let's have a quick lesson on compounding systems of oppression.

Oppression is compounded for people at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities.

Meaning that when multiple marginalized oppressions are experienced in an individual, that creates a WHOLE OTHER experience of oppression.

Meaning me as someone who is Black, queer, and sometimes poor.

So while folk respond with GO TO GHANA. Please note that while Ghana is an amazing place, Ghana's parliament (just this past October) began considering a bill that would criminalise homosexuality AND MAKING ADVOCATING FOR LGBT PEOPLE A CRIME. And why is it always Ghana?

So that means that half of yall who claim to be LGBTQIA allies in the U.S. would turn your back on me quick AF in Ghana.

FUN FACT: The Continent is not lilacs and daffodils.

I actually don't know anywhere on the planet that isn't anti-Black and/or anti-LGBTQIA.

And yes, I would rather be in a homophobic same race country than a queer friendly white one. But look at the decision I must make inside of that. Think about that fact that had to splice myself and pick which part could take the most hits. 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♀️

You're talking about your mama.

I'm talking about undeniable facts.

We are not the same.

It’s official, our girl is a licensed driver! We are all so proud. Thanks to everyone who gave your time, patience, and/or vehicle to get her here. So grateful (cause my nerves couldn’t take it half the time 🥴) and now she’s a great driver. Please pray for safe passage. 🙏🏽 Oh, and meet her new car, Smokey Quartz!

Free your mind.

ONLY white supremacist cultures view gender inside a binary. Meaning two options only. That is literally some white shit.

Even our language like "gender non binary" is still rooted in a binary. It's not liberation language. It's not freedom tongue.

The blood running thru your veins have coursed thru a multitude of gender identities.

(Some of) You are literally made up of man, woman, Fa’afafines, lhamana, muxes, sekrata, hijras, metis, toms, bujis, bissu, calabai, and soooooo many more. Think about how magical that is.

You are made up of magic.

I often say in jest that heterosexuality is bondage. But I mean it. For so many reasons including what we saw emerge on the post right before this. It forces us into constructs that are not true. So we spend our entire lives living in ways that are restrictive and then we die, having not met ourselves.

This is for the straight cisgender folk too.
