It might "be too hot", the work goes on! 5.30am starts to beat the studio heat another 48 to go. This job has been a massive learning curve for me. Along with trying to navigate fibromyagia and CFS in the extreme heat its been difficult so i'm super happy to have managed to get the first batch out.

Time has flown, spring is in full force and ive been busy tending seeds of bookbinding practice.

Shout out to Freya @paperwilds for all your help to get me started with marbling. Im hooked!

Many thanks to Tracey @traceyrowledge for the most inspirational teaching at gold tooling on leather workshop. Investing in some tools so I can keep on practicing.

Heartfelt thanks to Arthur @greens_books for advice, and exceptional workshops on cloth rebacks, sharpening and paring leather. My knife will never be blunt again!

@theindexbindery remains ever busy. Thank you to my lovely ladies who worked increadibly hard at our conertina book and slipcase workshop, you really knocked it out of the park!

Making a memory box is a very thoughtful and reflective process.

It's very meaningful when you are asked to make a box for a lost dear one.

It's not just the process of making it's the process of love, hope, and prayer that goes into every movement you make to bring into being something that will hold very precious memories.

I hope this box brings some solace during their grieving.

Investigating fabric bindings without glueing fabric to paper first. Or bulky interlining. Very precise sewing required. But it will mean I can use interlining to bulk the silk out when adhering it to the boards to cater for the different thickness of fabric.

I'm not sure how I will manage the turn-in's yet, especially along the seam. I may cut the seam out for turn in depending on whether I glue or stretch and stitch like mounting an embroidery to boards. Ahh, I do like to challenge myself!

I've just signed up for a goldwork masterclass with @handandlocklondon as part of their embroidery diploma. Not until April 2025, so I have a bit of time to investigate several ideas. So I can replicate embroidery on books that was so popular during the Tudor era.

I'm hoping I'll be able to make these fabric notebooks commercial enough so I can do a special range for the @theindexbindery .

This commission that I’ve been working on is a tiny book filled with hand painted flowers. It must have taken many hours and is a precious keepsake from a mother to her daughter who is now in her 80s.

It was a nervous moment for me cutting into the leather and I was so grateful for advice I received from Nicky @theindexbindery in Ludlow.

I managed to salvage discarded leather from the top to make an attachment from book to necklace and also a tiny tassel. I also fed the leather which now has a lovely soft shine.
