Incredible bird walk with @nliadis of @bird_lab_ into Bear Run Nature Reserve. Heard and saw some Downy Woodpeckers, Golden Crowned Kinglets, Carolina Warblers and many others. Big thanks to Nick for an inspiring and wide ranging talk!

Sold/Liquid/Gas

Last month I had the incredible opportunity to spend a week in residence at High Meadow with some wonderful designers and artists reflecting on entropy. Fallingwater is a place I’ve always wanted to experience and to see it through the lens of these creative thinkers made it even more special.

Being in a built environment so in tune with the surrounding nature opened up opportunities for making in the natural world different from a typical studio space. From the moment I woke each morning I could feel the world warming up, smell the meadow, and hear the birds in the forest.

I experimented with many different processes and mediums, getting muddier and venturing further into the conservancy as the days went by.

Camera, pen, paper and clay. With these tools I was able to capture the environment we worked in, write and sketch my observations and create three dimensional work to serve as vessels containing my experiences.

A pinch pot caught in the rain and snow melts back into the arm of the chair where it was born.
A circular piece of tin foil rests on my workbench.
Red thread tangles in the bottom of my toolbox.
Mud cakes the soles of my boots and clay collects under my fingernails.
A poem sits patiently in my notebook.

Thank you again @DesignInquiry for a wonderful week!

Saturday, September 14th @designjusticenetwork is hosting a DiscoTech at @talkingdolls . DiscoTechs are short for ‘Discovering Technology’ & are kind of like a science fair but a party - held in a community space. This event will focus on the theme of how design justice principles can be used to shift power in the creation of community technology through a series of over 10 skill share stations.

At Crosstown Connection’s station we’ll be empowering guests to do a bit of world building as they create small scale environments where our kiosks could live out of craft materials.

DiscoTechs were initially started and run by Detroit artists Diana Nucera and Nina Bianci as part of their work with the Detroit Digital Justice Coalition. This event is all ages. Food and refreshments will be served. Masks will be available at the door. The space has a wheelchair accessible bathroom.

We hope to see you there!

Last week at Highmeadow, light leaked between rhododendron leaves and tinfoil. It bounced among amazing people and delicious food in an inspiring setting. Peak shenanigans revealed the unexpected, as a myriad of pinpoints and unchecked chemistry transformed beautiful vistas into nebulous clouds. Reminding us that imperfection can capture a moment as vividly as precision.

I deeply appreciate the continued patience and generosity of @tr_rico and @intertopia for sticking it out and to @nliadis for bringing us back.

967 impressions and 106 masters later I think we're on to something.

Back from a super rewarding week at @directanglepress!! It was amazing to escape to such a gracious host, epic backdrop, small town amenities, lasers, alpha-blox, and space to explore ideas fresh off the heels of the @designiniquiry event. And jeez, it's been swell to work on this publication with @tr_rico and @intertopia. More to come.

It was also wonderful to experience pancakes, trivia night and Indian food with fellow resident @pollyfossey. Whew!! Talk about changing state, what a re-entry into NH! Good to be home.
