Here’s this beautiful human @thejohnsmith singing his beautiful song “Lily” off his album The Living Kind which was released into the world this week.

John said he came by the shop to pick up his new tricone but I know it was actually because he heard of the famed Margaronas at Mexican place hidden inside an almost defunct shopping mall here in Saginaw. We got to be friends in real life and we took these videos.

I think for me John’s music is beautiful. Not as an adjective but as a universal truth. The kind that stops your feet from rushing around, the deep inhalation of mountain atmosphere that teaches you what the air was like at it’s creation. It puts our rushing around into perspective against timelessness, our endless need for entertainment against fulfillment.

Whoa golly!! Just returned from my (and Pandora’s) first Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City and my heart is bursting at the seams and overwhelmed with gratitude after spending four days with over a thousand talented, brilliant, kind, generous, open-minded community of artists, industry partners, exhibitors from all over the world who are not only helping to preserve the legacy of roots artists but help to bring folk, blues, bluegrass, Americana, Cajun, Celtic, global roots, and other under-represented musical genres into the future while informing creativity and change.

Big thank you to FAI founder Alex Mallett for inviting and encouraging Pandora to participate, and to the entire FAI team and volunteers for running everything like a well-oiled machine.

And, of course, a massive thank you to my Pandora crew! Andee, for putting in all the blood, sweat and tears into getting us here and Eric, my ride-or-die counterpart. We’ve always prided ourselves on being one of the only streaming platforms with an actual human presence (like, on the ground!) at industry events and conferences, having one-on-one conversations with artists and their teams offering advice on how to better promote and support what they love doing on the Pandora platform and beyond. But more importantly, to help bolster a tradition that matters to nearly all of us: community and gathering.

This was the most valuable, rewarding and gratifying conference experience of my 20-year career in the music biz. I’m still overwhelmed and exhausted from the amount of music, love, and community I’ve taken away from FAI and I never want that feeling to go away.

The power of music compels us! 🔥🙌

We’ve got another slate of great new releases this week! We’re honored to release ‘Quilt Floor’ by Mama Zu, the posthumous project of Jessi Zazu with Linwood Regensburg of Those Darlins. Todd Snider is celebrating 30 years of making music with acoustic versions of his albums, starting with ‘Songs For The Daily Planet’ with plenty of colorful commentary. My new album "The Pendulum Swing" is out now! Over two years in the making, I've poured so much of myself into this collection of songs, and whilst this album feels incredibly personal in so many ways, I am so happy that these tracks will now find new homes and new meanings and new stories with you. With a strong theme of home, family and nostalgia running through it, I wanted this album to feel lived in. Something you can enter, make yourself at home, inhabit for a while, leave and return to as many times as you wish.

An enormous thank you to everyone involved in this album, from the musicians to the label to the folks behind the scenes keeping it all ticking. But most of all, thank you to all of you for your support and encouragement. If it wasn't for you, there wouldn't be an album at all.

Here's to celebrating new beginnings, and acknowledging everything that's come before. ♥️♥️
