This weekend I held a number of private views here in my studio as I’d received so much interest in the ‘Chinese‘ collection of bowls I designed. I also showed a number of pieces where the design phase was complete and all that I had to do was the varnishing.
Plus I showed a number if my botanical artworks.
A lovely, busy and successful weekend. It was really great to see so many collectors and friends.

Crane bowl. One of my smaller bowls. This time my inspiration came from the paper - I just had to use this gorgeous Japanese paper in muted green/gold/black. I liked the paper so much I didn’t want to add much more, so just hand painted the Japanese/Chinese character for crane. The rim was painted in black to bring out the black of the paper. A simple bowl!

What an incredible weekend! We opened our doors for our annual Print Expo & Fair 2026, a true showcase of collaboration and community effort. Thank you to everyone involved: vendors, workshop instructors, and volunteers from @gcmtmu and elsewhere whose efforts made the event special. Special thanks to George Walker, who was in his element at the #HotMetalRevival, Sean Cumming, who made sure all presses and equipment were in good shape, and to organizers Margot Cudmore, Joe Borges and Stu Hill for their invaluable support. As always, various demos and print experiences were the favourites with attendees of all ages.

Heartfelt gratitude to the community for their unwavering support, including @visitoakville Visit Oakville; @lighthousegrief The Lighthouse for Grieving Children & Families; @thebakersdevil Baker's Devil for their Snacks & Paperbacks fundraising theme; and @timhortons Tim Hortons for their delicious coffee and donuts.

Last but not least, thank you to visitors from the GTA and beyond who took the time to drop by and attend the event; your presence meant a great deal to us.

Through your generosity and participation in the day’s #HotMetalRevival and The Baker’s Devil’s #SnacksAndPaperbacks programs, we proudly raised for @lighthousegrief a sum of $2,308.90, plus a generous additional $450.00 donation from vendors, reflecting our community's strong support and shared success.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at the next Print Expo & Fair in September 2027 - stay tuned for more opportunities to connect and celebrate our community's creativity.

Butterflies and flowers. I’ve at long last finished the varnishing of the Chinese series and have been able to complete the design of this bowl which was started some months ago.

To have the privilege to share something you love and for that love to be passed on. Forever grateful ❤️

Everyone's piece was uniquely theirs and it makes me so happy that everyone had a creative day during the workshop.

Thank you @thejppofficial for hosting, and being a creative space.

Thank you, @glasscopperpaperwood for organizing, your help and taking photos!

Note to self: Get a picture of everyone's piece next time. If you have photos you'd like to share, please send them my way!

It was a great pleasure for Consulate General of Japan in Toronto to collaborate with The Japanese Paper Place for the event "Celebrating Osaki Washi" which the latter hosted last week.
For this event, The Japanese Paper Place invited Ms. Kataoka (née Osaki) Akari and her husband Mr. Kataoka Hisanao — members of the renowned Osaki family of washi (traditional Japanese paper 🇯🇵) artisans from Kochi Prefecture.
When I spoke with Ms. Kataoka Akari at the venue, she explained that The Japanese Paper Place had first invited the Osaki family to Canada 🇨🇦 in 2003; at that time—twenty-three years ago—she had still been harboring doubts about whether to take over the family papermaking business. However, while traveling through Canada with her grandfather and mother—both washi artisans themselves—she witnessed firsthand how the paper they created reached such distant lands and was embraced with great enthusiasm by Canadian artists.
This experience ultimately strengthened her resolve to carry on the family tradition and become a washi artisan in her own right. She told me that "I am grateful to Ms. Jacobi (founder of The Japanese Paper Place)." And she later drew applause from the audience when she declared, "It is thanks to Canada 🇨🇦 that I have been able to continue making paper all these years."
At the event, following the couple's detailed explanation of the washi-making process, participating Canadian artists took turns expressing their deep affection for the paper produced by the Osaki family.

Well, these might be the cutest little things I have
made in a long time!

A very lovely workshop today at @thejppofficial making mini tunnel books (about 2.5"x2"). So thoughtfully put together from the paper selection, as well as the wonderful little care package provided to take home our projects.

Of course, I also purchased a new, really good, curved pair of scissors as well as a pen knife while I was there because I was so impressed with how they cut everything. These will be my scissors and knife for collage only from here on in!

Janine Malaca is also an excellent and supportive instructors who makes the most precious mini-tunnel books!

Always a treat to spend the day at The Japanese Paper Place 🥰.

Join us at the @thejppofficial this afternoon where we will take a closer look at how many artists are using the wonderful papers made by the Osaki family.
Thank you JPP for inviting me to take part!

I’ll be demonstrating using the Seikosen Mitsumata and gouache at my table with some of these pieces with me (from sketches to finished mounted work).

Looking forwarding to seeing how other artists are using this gorgeous handmade washi with different media and taking in their lovely exhibition at the same time 🥰

See you soon!
