Someone called me “Sukoon girl” the other day, and I felt two things at once: so much pride in what I built, and a little sadness for the version of my life I thought I’d have.

When you pour years of yourself into a business, closing that chapter isn’t just a business decision. You’re also letting go of plans, routines, relationships, and an identity you spent a long time building.

I think we’re often too quick to ask founders what they’re doing next. As though the only way to make sense of something ending is to immediately build something new.

But if you’re in that place right now, here’s something I wish I’d understood sooner: you don’t have to decide what the experience meant before you’re ready to build again.

You can start by separating three things:

What ended: The business, product, or version of the plan that isn’t continuing.

What you’re keeping: The skills, relationships, convictions, and parts of yourself that grew through building it.

What you want to do differently: The decisions you’d make with what you know now, without assuming you have to recreate what you had before.

Sukoon Active is still part of my story. It just isn’t the whole story anymore.

And if you’re grieving something you built, I hope you give yourself room to figure out what comes next without rushing to turn the experience into a success story. It took me a few jobs and a few years to find the next thing I’m building: a way to pour back into founders through coaching to grow their own businesses.

Save this for a day when you need the reminder. 🫶

one of the teams i was on the longest had 1 brian, 2 michaels, and myself 😂 to say the least, I stood out!

for years i learned how to lead from men who were received completely differently than i was. and as i moved through different corporate jobs, it started to backfire. the directness and bluntness i’d been taught read as “hard to manage” coming from me.

in 2022 i started working with an executive coach who actually got it. i remember her saying something like “hm, you could do that, but what if it landed better coming from you like this instead...” that was the first time i really thought about this: the person saying the words matters just as much as what’s being said.

she was the first advisor i’d worked with who tailored her leadership advice to me specifically: a south asian woman who wears hijab, up against specific perceptions before i even start talking.

she didn’t just teach me what to say. she taught me how to say it in a way that would actually land, given how i’m already being perceived walking in.

most leadership advice is one-size-fits-all. it was never built for how you specifically move through the world.
if you’re navigating a hyphenated identity at work and you’re looking for guidance from someone who actually gets the nuance, comment “MENTOR” and i’ll send you my info.

appreciate this conversation with @thejuliegeorge on The Brown Girls Podcast in my early days of starting my coaching business!

I’ve really enjoyed keeping up with my weightlifting routines through pregnancy 🤰🏽

The idea that pregnant women should stop moving or avoid strength training is rooted in outdated guidance from decades ago.

Clear with your OB first, listen to your body, and adapt exercises and weights as needed. There’s endless amounts of science and research that have shown consistent exercise and weightlifting is great for mom + baby, prepares the body for labor, reduces birthing complications, and improves postpartum and recovery! 💯
