🚨🐘 A newborn elephant calf has been rescued from the powerful Teesta River in West Bengal, India, after strong currents swept the baby several kilometers away from their mother.

Local fishermen spotted the struggling calf and rushed to help, pulling the tiny calf from the river before forest officials stepped in to provide care and help bring the family back together. 🙏❤️‍🩹

According to Indian Forest Service officer Mudit Kumar Verma, the calf was swept nearly 5 km downstream before being rescued. He praised the fishermen and forest team as the “true heroes.”

WAN and Peace 4 Animals are grateful for the quick action and compassion of everyone involved. What a beautiful story of survival, with a baby elephant safely returned to their mother. 🙏🐘❤️

A significant step forward for the elephants of Nepal. 🐘🇳🇵

Today, on World Elephant Day, I would like to share encouraging news about the changes now taking place for elephants in Nepal.

On July 1, 2026, I had the honor of meeting H.E. Geeta Chaudhary, the Minister overseeing Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, and Environment of Nepal, at the Embassy of Nepal in Thailand. We discussed elephant welfare and meaningful ways to improve the lives of elephants across the country.

Then, on July 16, the Supreme Court of Nepal issued a landmark ruling strengthening elephant protection and welfare. In my view, it is one of the most progressive and comprehensive elephant welfare rulings I have ever seen.

Most importantly, the ruling recognizes elephants not merely as property, but as sentient living beings deserving dignity, protection, and freedom from suffering.

And now, those words are beginning to move beyond paper.

The Government of Nepal, through Minister Geeta, invited me to Nepal to work alongside government teams and help develop practical solutions to improve the lives of captive elephants.

Since arriving, I have joined the Minister and her team in visiting different locations to see firsthand how elephants are living and what needs to change.

One sentence she said to me has stayed deeply in my heart:

“I want to free every elephant from its chains and improve the lives of elephants in my country.”

Throughout our field visits, even on holidays, I witnessed her determination, sincerity, and genuine commitment to turning policy into real change.

The road ahead will not be easy. Changing long-standing traditions takes time, courage, cooperation, and understanding.

But when leadership is guided by compassion and the courage to act, change becomes possible.

I am ready to stand beside Minister Geeta and support this journey toward a future where Nepal’s elephants can live with better care, greater freedom, and the dignity they deserve.

Changing the lives of elephants does not begin with legislation alone. It begins when people recognize the value of their lives—and have the courage to act.

A meaningful visit to Elephant Care Nepal.

We were honored to welcome Lek Chailert, founder of Elephant Nature Park and Save Elephant Foundation; Aaron, founder of Planting Peace; and Riikjyoti, founder of The Jumbo Troops, Dada and the team to Elephant Care Nepal

During their visit, we had the opportunity to talk about elephants in Nepal, the challenges they face, and the importance of improving their care and welfare.

We also had the chance to share the stories of other elephants in Nepal who desperately need attention and support, including Ramu, whose situation remains a major concern and who needs help greatly.

It was a meaningful exchange of experiences, stories, and perspectives with one thing at the heart of the conversation: the wellbeing of elephants.

Today, my team from Save Elephant Foundation and I had the honor of meeting H.E. Geeta Chaudhary, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development and Minister of Forests and Environment of Nepal, at the Embassy of Nepal in Thailand following her kind invitation. We were also honored to be joined by H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to Thailand and Southeast Asia.
Our discussion focused on one of the issues closest to our hearts—the welfare and future of elephants in Nepal.
Minister Geeta is a visionary leader who embraces new ideas and is committed to improving the quality of life for animals. Her dedication to advancing elephant welfare and promoting modern, compassionate conservation gives us great hope for the future.
A key focus of our discussion was the sustainable development of elephant conservation centers, with animal welfare placed at the heart of every decision. We also explored new approaches to addressing the challenges surrounding traditional elephant management while improving the wellbeing of elephants under government care.
I am deeply honored that the Minister has shown interest in the work of Elephant Nature Park and Save Elephant Foundation and wishes to study our approach as a model for developing elephant care and welfare standards in Nepal.
We are delighted to share our experience, exchange knowledge, and fully support the Government of Nepal in building a better future for elephants.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Minister Geeta for her visionary leadership, her openness to meaningful dialogue, and her genuine commitment to improving the lives of elephants in Nepal.
My heartfelt thanks also go to H.E. Mr. Dhan Bahadur Oli for his warm support and for helping make this important meeting possible.
This collaboration gives us hope that lasting, positive change is possible when governments, conservationists, and communities work together with compassion, respect, and a shared commitment to protecting elephants.
Together, we can build a brighter future for Nepal’s elephants.

Elephant Hair Don’t Care 🌱🐘

It’s common to see elephants @elephantnaturepark wandering around with leaves, grasses, or branches perched on their heads after feeding or dust-bathing. It often looks intentional, but sometimes it’s just the result of a very enthusiastic snack! 🐘💈

Monday Mood: The Joy of a New Toy! 🟣

Sometimes the simplest things bring the greatest happiness.

A giant ball may seem like just a toy to us, but for elephants, it can spark curiosity, encourage play, inspire problem-solving, and create opportunities for social interaction. Watching Nanthip and the girls investigate, push, chase, and trumpet a new enrichment toy reminds us how intelligent, playful, and emotionally complex they truly
Today we’re celebrating the beauty of a giant ball, a little creativity, and a lot of elephant joy. 🐘🐘🐘🐘🟣

Thong Ae has a favorite song… and a favorite singer. 🐘🎶

Whenever @lek_chailert begins to sing, Thong Ae comes close and soaks up every note. It’s one of those quiet, beautiful moments that reminds us just how deeply elephants feel comfort, connection, and love.

Some friendships don’t need words. 🎤🎵

What a night! 🎥🐘✨

Last evening we witnessed @kimfrankwriter’s documentary, Where the Forest Roars in Austin, TX. It was captivating.

Where the Forest Roars is such a beautiful and powerful film about people and elephants living side by side in the Eastern Himalaya / North Bengal. 🐘🧡 It dives into the human-elephant conflict in the region but still leaves you with a hopeful feeling about coexisting. The visuals are gorgeous, the storytelling really hits, and the message feels super important for our shared future.

We loved @riikjyoti of @thejumbotroops used his voice to amplify the plight. And T hanks to @earthxorg and @explorers_club_tx for hosting a great event. 🐘🐘🐘🐘🎥
