Friday from the Field

Fieldwork isn’t about sophisticated setups or having every facility. It’s about facing harsh realities, standing together through challenges, and working as one family. During elephant duty, teamwork, trust, and commitment matter more than comfort. Because in the field, we don’t just work as a team; we stand together as a family, for both people and elephants. 🐘❤️ taken in Bagdogra, West Bengal, India by @thejumbotroops

MONDAY MONITORING

I was part of the advance elephant monitoring team Lead by Mukhia Sir, where my responsibility was to assess the route ahead and Pass the message to field in-charge regarding elephant movement. - Riik.

Whenever elephants move through non-forest areas, tea gardens, and human settlements, advance route monitoring becomes crucial to ensure their safe passage and minimize risks to both people and wildlife.

Through field experience, I realized how challenging this responsibility is for the Forest Department. Guiding a herd through densely populated areas without putting human lives or elephants at risk requires constant vigilance, proper coordination, quick decision-making, and immense patience from the field officers.

Behind every safely guided elephant herd, there is a team working under tremendous pressure to protect both human lives and wildlife. It is a challenging responsibility, but one that is essential for moving towards a future where humans and elephants can coexist peacefully. taken in West Bengal, India by @thejumbotroops

WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY

Wildlife Week celebration begins with an interactive session with children! 🐘🐆

As elephant electrocution deaths become a serious concern and leopard attacks emerge as a growing challenge, let’s give children the space to become teachers for their own friends.

From understanding the importance of elephants to learning how to stay safe during leopard encounters, children shared knowledge, awareness, and responsibility with one another.

Because the future of wildlife conservation begins when children learn—and teach others to care. 🌿

Why we say the word " Conflict "
Reason is if there is economical loss then there is conflict, where people farm paddy for their own consumption in The country like INDIA, where a major number of people lives below poverty level and according to survey by UN 9.8% people face hunger in India. It's a serious matter. That's why we are trying to promote and continuously working on sustainable livelihood and alternative farming taken in West Bengal, India by @thejumbotroops

MONITORING MONDAY

Our landscape is home not only to elephants and leopards, but also to the greater one-horned (Indian) rhinoceros, one of the world’s threatened species. This makes regular wildlife monitoring, habitat protection, and community-level awareness equally important.

Conservation cannot succeed through monitoring alone. Building awareness among local communities and encouraging their participation is essential to protect these species and ensure a future where wildlife and people can coexist. taken in West Bengal, India by @thejumbotroops
