If you have submitted to our last call out, for work around Desi nostalgia, expect an email in your inbox tonight at 6pm :)

As someone who has never done this before, curating a community of fellow Desi creatives, this is intimidating.

I want to be able to publish everyone but I can’t for a multitude of reasons people don’t even realise.

Many of the pieces don’t make the cut because they’re not related to the theme of the magazine and others are MORE related to the theme.

Many don’t because they don’t follow the guidelines close enough.

There’s loads of reasons but it does make me question the effect on the submitter (I’m a massive empath if you couldn’t already tell).

Nevertheless, you can’t please everyone ~ my life’s genuine motto.

Those who are here to support will always support regardless of the outcome.

And as always, this isn’t the last of Samajh. We’ve only just begun :) ❤️

What is Aligned with Aiesha?

Aligned with Aiesha is built on the foundations of being courageous, curious and grounded in community. What started off as a yoga journey of self discovery became a tool and platform to share practices deep rooted in my heritage. It became more than just poses or postures, but a returning to self, of coming back to your truest essence, without judgement, without fear, and unwaveringly unapologetic. Being courageous meant letting go of the fear of judgement of failure. Being curious meant leaning into my Muslim South Asian identity. And building community a concept which was no longer a thing of the past but a commitment to show up for one another in a society that praises individualism. Aligned in mind, body and soul. Being Aligned is about redefining, over and over and over again. It’s about honouring each and every version of yourself- no matter what that may look like. Aligned with Aiesha is my reminder that life is too short to not be yourself- it’s imperfect, it’s messy but drawing in the lines always seemed abit dull to me. Be courageous. Stay curious. Do it with community.

For every person on their perfectly imperfect journey of life- Aligned with Aiesha is here to cheerlead you on every step of the way ✨

A special thanks to the talented @thekaliculture for helping to bring my branding vision to life 🫶🏽

“Beauty and the Beast just me and I, two can play that game of truth and lies…it’s all patterns of design”

This is probably one of my favourite pieces of content we’ve ever made because it perfectly encapsulates what I’m trying to do with Samajh My Gal.

We need to get rid of the negative things attached with being dual-heritage. Forget the imbalance, forget the in-betweenness and celebrate who we really, truly are.

The beauty of us.

Because dudes, being a South Asian, who can speak multiple languages, cook a variety of different foods and produce creative work that is raw, colourful and unique, is FLIPPING AWESOME.

If you’ve ever felt in-between, stay put. Something is coming ~ Oldham, May…

If you like what you see and want to see more, follow @samajhmygal for more!
