I am a Game Changer. ❤️

When Mom LaRue calls, there’s really only one answer: say less, I got you.

Jeannine LaRue is easily one of my favorite people in this entire world. Yes, she is a powerhouse, but what I admire most is the way she has shown me what it means to command a room with love. To be a bright light. To make space for women, pour into them, connect them, and remind them of the power they already carry.

So when she asked me to help bring the vision for the Game Changer Mixer to life, I knew without a doubt that I was going to make it happen. It was an honor to curate the décor and help create a space worthy of the women who would fill it.

And of course, my ride or die @nayettemadeit was right there with me, helping me curate, execute, problem-solve, and make the room beautiful. She shows up for me every single time, and I never take that kind of love for granted.

Shanique, thank you for the care that you put into our gurl, your impact is truly truly making a difference.

Last night was bigger than a beautiful room or a mixer. It was a testament to the impact of @laruelistcafe and the community Mom LaRue has built around women who are changing the game in their own ways.

To be in a room full of that much brilliance, laughter, love, connection, and possibility and to have a hand in creating the environment that held it all was special.

For Mom LaRue? Every time. 🧡

A year ago, I turned on my first sewing machine for the first time.

No grand plan. Just an old pair of jeans, some fabric, curiosity, and the decision to see what I could make. That day, I made a tote bag and met my obsession with textiles in an entirely new light.

One year later, I’m still learning, still experimenting, still cutting things up and putting them back together, and still finding new ways for cloth to carry the story.

So it feels special to celebrate this one-year mark by inviting other people into the process.

🧵 Threads of Testimony is a FREE sewing and storytelling workshop where I’ll be sharing some of the process and passion that grew from that first day at the machine.

If you’ve been wanting to touch a sewing machine, work with fabric, or explore the stories our materials can hold, come learn with me.

Registration is free via Eventbrite. 🪡 LINK IN BIO (8 slots left)

One year ago, I just decided to touch the machine. Look what can happen when you start.

Liberty, With Conditions is an exhibition and immersive dinner experience looking at the different wars Black people and communities have had to navigate in the pursuit of freedom. It starts with the contradiction of 1776...America fighting for liberty while Black people were still enslaved and uses that as a jumping-off point to look at how those same questions show up across generations.

We’re exploring **War Within Self + Identity, War Within Community, War With Systems, Freedom + Survival, and Wars Created by Impossible Choices.** It’s historical, but it’s also very much about now.

We currently have an **open call for artists** to respond to these ideas through their own work. The response doesn’t have to be about the Revolutionary War or 1776 specifically...it can be **historical, contemporary, personal, ancestral, local, or global.** Existing work and proposals for new work across disciplines are welcome.

It says AI content for the QR code I'm guessing🙄🙄

Your hobby said y'all need to start seeing each other again 😭

So bring it outside.

Bring the crochet project that's been sitting in the bag. The sketchbook you swore you'd use. Your camera. Your cards. Your book. Your beads. Your half-finished whatever.

Bring something to barter if you want. Pack something good to eat. Grab your blanket and come spend the day with us.

No need to be an expert. No need to make anything worth posting.

We just want you to come outside and do something you actually enjoy.

I am not a performer & my nerves got to me in this first piece. But nonetheless I am so proud and glad @sd_integrating.intimately had me up there. Thankful to @hellodoriane for always hyping us up and @nayettemadeit for being my rider🫶🏾❤️ we be in the trenches together! Donnieeee no IG but for being the loveliest presence. The sage❤️ Pt.1! It’s long
How come the more I ask for community,
the lonelier I feel?
Because lately it feels like everybody got language.
Everybody got a framework.
Everybody got a bookshelf full of theory.
Everybody can quote the politic.
Everybody can define accountability.
Everybody can tell you what care should look like.
But living the politic?
That’s a different conversation.

(MOESHA DIARY LOOP) (SLIDE 26)

Because this year taught me
that there is a difference
between studying community
 and practicing it.
A difference between naming care
and offering it.
A difference between checking in
and checking around.
My birthday came and went.
Some people forgot.
Some people remembered days later.
Some people never said a word at all.
And these same people
went out to dinner.
Went to the function.
Made the plans.
Found the time.
Found the money.
Found the energy.
Just not for me.
And maybe that’s what I’ve been carrying.
Not the forgotten birthday.
But what it revealed.

What would happen if we made more room for the things that bring us joy?

Somewhere between growing up and growing busy, many of us stopped making time for the hobbies that once made us feel most like ourselves. The things we loved became things we’d get back to “one day.”

We believe those parts of ourselves are worth returning to.

The Hobby Club is an invitation to slow down, to stay curious, and to gather around the things we love simply because we love them. It’s a space where hobbies are celebrated, stories are shared, and community grows through the simple act of doing something together.

This is the beginning of something we’ve been dreaming about for a while, and we’re excited to finally share it with you.

What hobby have you been meaning to return to?
