I’m Kenny, the hands and heart behind Ken Cloth — a practice rooted in textiles, memory, and the sacred things we carry. I made this bag for the opening night of all that we carry, a show about release, lineage, and becoming.

If you’re near Camden, come be in the room with us on opening night. January 18th, 3-5 PM in Camden, NJ at Camden Fireworks. Bring something you’re ready to put down. We’ll carry the rest together.

The Ken Cloth, founded by Kenya “Kenny” Bullock, is a curatorial and archival practice grounded in Black lineage, memory, and material culture. Working at the intersection of community engagement and contemporary art, Bullock develops exhibitions and programs that treat archives as living systems held in bodies, stories, and cloth.

Their curatorial work centers collaborative world-building and the politics of care. Through interdisciplinary projects, Bullock cultivates spaces where artists, elders, youth, and local communities contribute to a shared fabric of knowledge. The Ken Cloth reflects a commitment to honoring grief, celebrating joy, and uplifting cultural memory as a site of resistance.

Alongside curatorial practice, Bullock creates textile-based installations and soft sculptures that explore holding, kinship, and the textures of everyday life. This dual role allows The Ken Cloth to move fluidly between conceptual framing and tactile making, forming an approach that is at once scholarly, poetic, and deeply rooted in cultural practice. by @thekencloth_

🧵 First sewing session in the books!

We kicked off *Threads of Testimony* by getting into the story before the stitch. We talked about storytelling through cloth, chose threads and fabrics that connected to the stories we want our bags to carry, and learned the basic parts and functions of the sewing machine.

Next week, we’re putting those stories into motion! We’ll start designing our individual tote panels, laying out and composing our fabrics, and getting hands-on with controlling and operating the sewing machines.

And there’s still room at the table (and the sewing machine 👀). If you’d like to join us, email thekencloth@gmail.com.

Come learn, make, and tell a story with us. 🪡🧵 by @thekencloth_

I am a Game Changer. ❤️

When Mom LaRue calls, there’s really only one answer: say less, I got you.

Jeannine LaRue is easily one of my favorite people in this entire world. Yes, she is a powerhouse, but what I admire most is the way she has shown me what it means to command a room with love. To be a bright light. To make space for women, pour into them, connect them, and remind them of the power they already carry.

So when she asked me to help bring the vision for the Game Changer Mixer to life, I knew without a doubt that I was going to make it happen. It was an honor to curate the décor and help create a space worthy of the women who would fill it.

And of course, my ride or die @nayettemadeit was right there with me, helping me curate, execute, problem-solve, and make the room beautiful. She shows up for me every single time, and I never take that kind of love for granted.

Shanique, thank you for the care that you put into our gurl, your impact is truly truly making a difference.

Last night was bigger than a beautiful room or a mixer. It was a testament to the impact of @laruelistcafe and the community Mom LaRue has built around women who are changing the game in their own ways.

To be in a room full of that much brilliance, laughter, love, connection, and possibility and to have a hand in creating the environment that held it all was special.

For Mom LaRue? Every time. 🧡 by @thekencloth_

A year ago, I turned on my first sewing machine for the first time.

No grand plan. Just an old pair of jeans, some fabric, curiosity, and the decision to see what I could make. That day, I made a tote bag and met my obsession with textiles in an entirely new light.

One year later, I’m still learning, still experimenting, still cutting things up and putting them back together, and still finding new ways for cloth to carry the story.

So it feels special to celebrate this one-year mark by inviting other people into the process.

🧵 Threads of Testimony is a FREE sewing and storytelling workshop where I’ll be sharing some of the process and passion that grew from that first day at the machine.

If you’ve been wanting to touch a sewing machine, work with fabric, or explore the stories our materials can hold, come learn with me.

Registration is free via Eventbrite. 🪡 LINK IN BIO (8 slots left)

One year ago, I just decided to touch the machine. Look what can happen when you start.

The Hobby Club came from a very real place: exhaustion.

From watching capitalism creep into our creative passions. Watching the things we once did simply because they brought us joy slowly become things we felt we had to sell, brand, perfect, monetize, or turn into something “productive.”

This was a chance to put the pressure down. To sit outside. To make things. To trade things. To try something new. To rest. To remember that creativity doesn’t always have to lead somewhere.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and committed to relaxing, creating, sharing, and finding your people and your spaces. Thank you to Watu Moja and Bethel UMC for housing us and believing in what we’re building.

And thank you to the community for reminding us why spaces like this are necessary.

This won’t be the last Blankets & Barter. 🌻

We’re just getting started. Stay tuned. by @thekencloth_

What stories do you carry? 🧵

Maybe it’s something your grandmother taught you. A scripture you return to. A family tradition. A memory from growing up in the church. A person you never want forgotten.

Threads of Our Testimony is a four-six session intergenerational storytelling and tote-making experience where we’ll turn those memories into something we can actually carry.

We’ll share our stories, choose fabrics that speak to them, learn to cut and sew our own tote bags, and contribute a piece of our fabric to something even bigger...a collective bag representing the stories and generations of our church.

Our finished pieces will come together in celebration of the GMZ Church Anniversary.

🧵 Limited to 10 participants
🪡 No sewing experience needed
🤎 All generations welcome
⛪ Open to everyone! GMZ Church members will receive priority registration in celebration of the church anniversary.

Come with a story you’re willing to carry forward.

Liberty, With Conditions is an exhibition and immersive dinner experience looking at the different wars Black people and communities have had to navigate in the pursuit of freedom. It starts with the contradiction of 1776...America fighting for liberty while Black people were still enslaved and uses that as a jumping-off point to look at how those same questions show up across generations.

We’re exploring **War Within Self + Identity, War Within Community, War With Systems, Freedom + Survival, and Wars Created by Impossible Choices.** It’s historical, but it’s also very much about now.

We currently have an **open call for artists** to respond to these ideas through their own work. The response doesn’t have to be about the Revolutionary War or 1776 specifically...it can be **historical, contemporary, personal, ancestral, local, or global.** Existing work and proposals for new work across disciplines are welcome.

It says AI content for the QR code I'm guessing🙄🙄 by @thekencloth_

Your hobby said y'all need to start seeing each other again 😭

So bring it outside.

Bring the crochet project that's been sitting in the bag. The sketchbook you swore you'd use. Your camera. Your cards. Your book. Your beads. Your half-finished whatever.

Bring something to barter if you want. Pack something good to eat. Grab your blanket and come spend the day with us.

No need to be an expert. No need to make anything worth posting.

We just want you to come outside and do something you actually enjoy.
