Welcome to the fastest way to visit Penang from KL! TheKitchen783 is one of those places where you wonder how you're gonna reach an impenetrable fortress. Parking is a real issue, but thankfully their food is highly tapau-able - Mrs Jay just had it today and thoroughly enjoyed it! Checkout @thekitchen783 for details! A humble home contains an iconic durian tree and furniture that makes one feel like Balik Pulau. It's like a portal opened up and transported me there instantly. Seeing a family dedicated to this craft and obsession is very delightfully humbling. They seem the loveliest Penangites you'd cheer for. Come at 1115am on Sat/Sun to avoid disappointment. Ratings: 1) Penang Siamese Lemak Laksa: 9/10. Perfectly executed Penang lemak laksa imo. Very generous gorgeously-adorned bowl. Nothing adequately describes the delight of a multi coloured bowl of orange goodness meeting one's lips and them smacking with joy with an ahhhh. Flavours are perfectly balanced lemak and spices and sourness. The laksa noodles are so good al dente and perfect for slurping up with spoonfuls of soup. Missed out on a perfect 10 because there was no extra spoon of Hei Kou, so it was slightly less sweet than I'd like. Generous pieces of fish completed the amazing experience. 2) Penang Assam Laksa: 7.5/10. While I enjoyed this as well, I found it a little too sour and the red soup seemed to have less fish. Again missing the Hei Kou was a pity as the sourness was a little overpowering. If sweeter, I'd have finished the soup as I did with the lemak laksa. 3) Penang-style Cendol: 7.5/10. I've a "Straits Palate". Born in Penang and raised on Penang food, but spent almost 2 decades enjoying Melaka-style food and 4 decades with KL food, so I've tasted a large variety. The cendol here is of the more watery variety - ie the Santan and gula Melaka weren't thick enough for my liking. The Gula Melaka tasted slightly sugary (ie impure) and I don't enjoy red beans. But this was a perfect complement to the spicy, sour meal.
