We have to thank @ladyoutnumbered321 for reaching out and telling us about this book. The Kaufman farm is noted inside and she recognized it from our posts!!.

For anyone intrigued, like we are, with the architecture of historic homes this book is fascinating. In its foreword, “Where We Live” (first published in 1943).…”is an engaging and eye-opening celebration of two great American treasures. One is the marvelous collection of photographs and drawings produced under the auspices of the Historic American Building Survey. Launched during the depression as a means of providing employment for out of work architects and photographers and still going strong today, HABS has compiled an invaluable and ever-growing archive of thousands of photos and drawings of American buildings some of which sadly now exist only in these images….” Foreword by Richard Max President of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The book surveys buildings across the country. From New England and the plain building of the Puritans to log cabins in the West and the South and their grand plantations and primitive slave quarters.

It’s sad to think how many of these structures are no longer standing, but how grateful to have organizations like the HABS and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Side note: Can we all chuckle at “a better way to go” 😂 We got this copy for $8.00 from @thriftbooks. Let us know if you have any other suggestions! We are filling our library. ❤️📚❤️ Enjoy!!
