wild + free conference

i grew up attending homeschool conferences with my mom while she was a speaker and a vendor. this weekend, i attended my first conference as a homeschool mother myself. it was such a transformational and memorable experience, and i left empowered and rejuvenated, ready to pour into both my son and the 10th graders that i tutor. i learned a lot about my blind spots, as well as my strengths. my love for literature and classical studies was revived. what a great weekend thanks to @wildandfree.co

Thank you, Wild + Free. 🤍 I’m leaving this weekend with a very full heart.

There is something so meaningful about being surrounded by like-minded, God-fearing women who love their children deeply and are seeking the Lord in how they raise and educate them. Women speaking into my life from the stage, around the table, over coffee, and in all the little conversations in between.

I filled pages with notes, but these are the words I’m carrying home:

“The person is the point.”

“You are the story your child is reading.”

“Children don’t need perfect mothers. They need mothers who get it wrong, say they’re sorry, and learn and grow.”

I don’t want to become so consumed with preparing my children for the lives ahead of them that I miss the childhood happening right in front of me.

Make the cookies. Read the book. Go outside. Listen to their secrets. Be interested in what they love. Build a home where they know they belong.

I want them to remain wild + free—and I’m realizing that sometimes I have to be the one willing to become free first.

Motherhood is planting seeds we may never get to see fully grown. So I’m coming home reminded to bring what I have, offer it all up, and trust Him to make it enough. 🤍(@wildandfree.co )

Back at the Wild+ Free conference one year after Elsie Iudicello inspired me to write one poem every day for a year by declaring, “every day is a poem!” She was back tonight along with Ainsley Arment, Leslie Martino, and The Last Bison to inspire the hearts of all these mothers to embody the education we want for our children. We are the story our children are reading, and I am so proud to be writing it with all the amazing Wild+Free mamas by my side. ❤️🎶

I still think about this moment daily. If you haven’t seen The Rivals of Amziah King, you’re missing out. Really grateful I got to be part of this one.

First off, thanks to the truly wonderful @anjelicafellini for capturing these memories on film! Had so much fun filming @amziahkingfilm with the best cast ever. @realowenteague and @tonyrevolori made me feel like part of the family from day one — y’all are some real ones!

Third shot was taken after Scott Shepherd and @anjelicafellini absolutely smoked me in UNO for a good 12 games in a row. I didn’t win once…

So glad this unapologetically original film by salt of the the earth Andrew Patterson is finally out there for y’all to see. Catch it while it’s still in theaters — you won’t regret it.
