POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A few days ago we received a letter from the federal government.

They intend to build a border wall through our property on the Rio Grande.

This isn’t my typical post about building a company or getting dressed. But if you’ve followed along for years, you know this part of Texas is a huge part of our story.

You were there when we built @TheLocalChapter.
When we planted our agave farm on the Rio Grande.
When we moved our family to the west Texas mountains for a few years.

We chose this place because it is extraordinary.

Our children are 9th-generation Texans, and their childhood has been shaped by the wild beauty of this region — hiking desert trails, floating the Rio Grande, and seeing wildlife most people only read about: black bears, mountain lions, elk, bighorn sheep.

Which is why this matters so much.

There is currently a published plan to build a physical border wall through parts of the Big Bend region — including Big Bend Ranch State Park and bordering private land along the Rio Grande.

A wall here wouldn’t just change the view.
It would effectively cut Texans off from the river, disrupt one of the most important wildlife corridors in North America, and permanently alter one of the last truly wild places in our country.

Let me be clear about something important:
I believe in border security.
I support protecting our country.
And I am grateful to the people working every day to do that.
But this particular solution, in this particular place, is a mistake.

Weekend spent at one of my favorites places on earth @thelocalchapter

FAQ:
- Is there a bathroom? Yes! There is an oversized bathroom with a walk in shower. These yurts were built like luxury homes.
- Are they air conditioned? Yes! Air conditioners can generally bring the outdoor temp down by 30 degrees so time your trip accordingly.
- Do they have a fire pit? Yes! Each yurt has its own private porch with luxury outdoor furniture and its own fire pit with rocking chairs.
- When is the best time to visit? The weather is best October to April.
- Where is it located? @thelocalchapter is the immediate neighbor of the @bigbendnps and is the only place to stay with unobstructed views of the park. It is at the entrance.
