Chef Tom Valenti, one of America’s most respected chefs and the man who turned braised lamb shanks into a signature fine-dining dish, died on April 1, 2026, at the age of 67 after a short illness.

Valenti built a celebrated career in New York restaurants including Alison on Dominick, Ouest, Le Cirque, and later Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen. His cooking combined refined technique with comforting flavors, and his slow-braised lamb shank became so iconic that it was often described as one of the best in America.

Beyond his culinary achievements, he was admired for his generosity and leadership. Following the September 11 attacks, Valenti helped establish the Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund, which raised millions of dollars to support the families of restaurant workers who lost their lives.

RIP Barbara Walters. She broke the barrier for women in news. A role model who taught by the way she lived. A brave woman who went after the newsmakers and landed all of the "gets" and made news through her interviews. Cheers to a very storied career.
