THIS IS ONLY OCTOBER! 🤯🚨 That’s not a typo! St John’s storms back to beat in Rutgers in FOUR OVERTIMES at MSG! The Johnnies trialed by 18 at the half, got back in the game on a 32-8 run, and won what might already be the game of the year in college hoops 😅 #CollegeHoops

Isaiah Denis is ruled OUT for the game against Indiana today.

His injury is undisclosed for now.

Matt Able and Terrence Brown will really be tested tonight.

Indiana has huge holes in their back court, so this will leave a hole open for these 2 to shine.

Expect big games from one or both tonight.

With the Division 1 level having a bit of a log jam due to the extended eligibility rules the result of this in my opinion is many players ending up at the JUCO level even though they’re talented enough to play at a high level. I wanted to illustrate some of the players that personally caught my attention as I believe that many of them can easily translate to a systematic role within a higher level program. The underdog story will forever be one that many people find themselves rooting for and I think these players easily could have a coaching staff intrigued with their said skill set.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find film for Tyler Robinson but I think he might be one of my personal favorites from this list. The forward averaged 12.3 pts/ 7.4 reb/ on 59.8% 46.7 3pt% splits as a freshman at Schoolcraft.

Santonio Waide

The Point Guard will be replacing star guard Trent Lincoln at Gulf Coast State under a new coaching staff and I believe that Waide could shine there as a Freshman. He’s a former 3 star guard that played half of a season with the OTE program as a senior and averaged 15.8 PPG/ 6.2 APG/ 45.5 3PT% against some of the best high school talent in the nation.

Jackson Byam

The left handed Point Guard has shown the ability to manipulate the defense with his change of pace while also being a scrappy defender on the other side of the floor. Byam averaged 18.6 PPG/ 4.6 APG as a Senior in high school last year and will do a majority of his work from behind the arc in a variety of ways.

Marcus Gillespie

The 6’5 scoring guard is a former 3 star that decided ultimately not to play for Omaha this season and instead will be playing for a loaded South Plains team for his Freshman season. Gillespie also spent time with the OTE program and during his 2 seasons there he averaged 7.7 PPG and shot 38.9% from 3.

Carlsheon Young

A talented left handed combo guard that is very comfortable creating for himself as well as being a scrappy defender that picks up full court on the other side of the floor. Young is transferring from Pacific and joining South Plains as he’ll look to quickly return to the Division 1 level.

Preston Wade

A former 4 star prospect that will sp

This guy will definitely be needed if we want to be successful.

Kevin Thomas has the ability to shock a lot of people. He just needs his moment.

Thomas can guard multiple positions, shoot the ball well, and brings a different type of energy to the court.

Hopefully Malone gives this man the minutes he deserves.

🛡️ IOWA’S DEFENSE WILL BE A STRENGTH 💪

Assistant coach Bryston Williams highlighted the Hawkeyes’ ability to pressure the ball and disrupt opposing guards, along with Andrew McKeever’s rim protection.

With the personnel Iowa has, expect a Top 25 defense that consistently creates problems for opponents. Defense will continue to be a large part of this team’s identity in Year 2 under Ben McCollum.

Just how good will this defense be after picking up a rim protector in McKeever?

KenPom has Iowa ranked No. 43 nationally heading into the season. 👀

📈 No. 36 in adjusted offense
🛡️ No. 58 in adjusted defense
🐢 No. 365 in adjusted tempo
📋 Projected record: 19-13 (10-10 Big Ten)

KenPom also projects 10 games decided by just ONE possession. Expect plenty of close finishes in year two under Ben McCollum.

How many wins do you think Iowa gets this season? 👇

Tar Heel nation should not be worried.

Terrence Brown and Matt Able didn’t contribute much in UNC’s win over USC, but that could be a good thing.

Why?

Winning by 18 without 2 huge pieces doing much is really really good.

The bench combined for 35 points with huge performances from Isaiah Denis and Maximo Adams.

We all knew we had a deep bench, but this reinforced it even more.

Cameron Fens was also out, so that lead could’ve been even larger.

Terrence and Matt will find their way back to their best, and once they do, we will be a top 10 team.
