Yesterday I was honored to be recognized as one of the Triangle Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 for 2026. I had a few out-of-body moments looking around. The room was full of founders, CEOs, attorneys, developers, bankers, physicians, investors, business owners, and executives from across the Triangle. And there I was, talking about grief. Each of us had been asked to bring a prop representing our work. I had brought an old family photo that used to sit on my dad’s desk, featuring my mom, my dad, my brother, and me, in all our late-‘80s and early-‘90s glory. When it was my turn to speak, I shared the irony that I was being recognized for building Grieve Leave, because two of the people who made it possible weren’t in the room. But it’s because they’re gone that I built this. Before I finished, I asked everyone to think about one person who couldn’t be there but who would be incredibly proud of them. For a few quiet moments, a room built to celebrate business success made space for grief. Grief isn’t separate from our careers or our leadership. Every company has it. Every boardroom has it. Every award ceremony has it. Every family has it. I’m grateful to @trianglebizjrnl for the honor, and congratulations to this year’s incredible class. It was a privilege to be in that room with all of you, and I can’t wait to connect more! You better believe I’ll be all up in your inboxes.

CHRISTMAS EXPERIENCE 2024 - Behind The Scenes We needed traditional church pews for this year’s Christmas Experience stage design. Pastor @joshuacissell found some old pews on FB marketplace and we went to a very remote location to pick them up 🤣. They’ve seen better days but we were determined to “wake them up”.
