“Nothing here is urgent.” That was the invitation. For four days in Atlanta last month, our Cultural Sustainability grant partners stepped away from the urgency of the work and into something just as necessary: rest, reflection, connection, joy, and one another. And if the joy in these moments feels palpable, it was. We ate together. We danced. We laughed. We told the truth. We talked about what it means to receive, to lead from a place of wholeness, to build healthier organizations, and to keep going without losing ourselves in the process. Because if we are serious about sustaining culture, we have to ask: Who is sustaining the people who carry it? With The Wallace Foundation and Creative Equity Research Partners, this gathering created space for what is too often pushed aside by the work itself: the well-being of the people doing it. Not as a break from the work. As part of it. Return to yourself before the work. Southern vitality through the arts is cultural sustainability. 🎥Video by @brendaneldom ____ With deep gratitude to everyone who brought their wisdom, honesty, laughter, and whole selves into the room and wonderful Atlanta spaces that held us and this gathering @augustaminitheatreinc, @adama_atl, @descolonizarte_teatro, @archingoaks, @theflourishalabama, @tpa_shreveport318, @hhn2l_, @i_was_here_usa, @briarwoodartscenter, @themashupart_, knoxasianfestival, @tpupeducation, @theoriginalgullahfestival, @wassamasaw_tribe, @catawbaculture, @techmojacompany. A special thanks to guests artists @okcello, to our session leaders and hosts, @markkendallcomedy, @lisaatia @nadia_reads, @beejbee, @brendamoorer, Brittnee Buley, @adrianevjefferson, and to our South Arts family.

Missed this week’s Open Studio with @bcdestiny? We got you covered. We didn’t want you to miss out on the moment, so you can still Write My Face from home. Here are the writing prompts from Bleu-Jean herself, created to help you reflect, write, and explore the portrait within you. Take your time with them. Answer one, answer all, or let one prompt turn into something completely different. And if you feel comfortable sharing what you wrote, send it our way. We’d love to see how this activity helped you express the parts of yourself that don’t always get seen..

Help us spread the word about 27 Frames! While this is a party, it’s also a moment to disconnect and recharge through human interaction. We spend so much of our lives experiencing moments through a screen. For one night, we’re inviting you to trade your phone for a film camera, be present with the people around you, and leave with memories you won’t see until they’re developed. If that sounds like something we need more of, help us share it. Like @ko.maris choose your 27 Frames wisely or we can help you with our 27 frames prompts. It’s soley up to you! August 8 • Vibe Studio Jxn Tickets available now.

Open Studio continues… MARKED by @jbuck.the.artist Some things are worth keeping. For one night only, we’re inviting you to bring something personal for Jbuck to draw on. It could be a tote bag, sketchbook, journal, hat, printed photo, record sleeve, or another small item that means something to you. Instead of leaving with a print or a signature, you’ll leave with a one-of-one piece carrying Jbuck’s artistic mark. As artists grow, these moments become part of the story. Years from now, that object won’t just remind you of this moment, plus it supports the artist! Leave with something marked. July 22 6–8 PM Vibe Studio Jxn This Open Studio activation is part of Pørtraits/FACES, Jbuck’s solo exhibition on view through August 1. #OpenStudio #VibeStudioJxn #PortraitsFaces #Jbuck #JacksonMS SupportBlackArt
