Today, we witnessed a moment that will forever live in the history of the Luso‑Canadian community — the inauguration of the Portas da Cidade Azores right here in Brampton, Ontario. Standing there felt surreal, but nothing compared to watching my parents take it all in. The very doors they once walked past in São Miguel — the ones they left behind when they immigrated to Canada with nothing but courage and hope — now stand tall in the country they rebuilt their lives in.

Seeing their pride was everything. But the best part was watching them share that moment with my daughter, their granddaughter. Three generations, one legacy. That quiet passing of tradition, of identity, of roots — happening right before my eyes.

For the Portuguese community, this isn’t just a monument. It’s a reminder that our stories matter. Our sacrifices built futures. Our culture continues to thrive. And today, the Portas da Cidade opened once again — not just in stone, but in the hearts of every Portuguese family who calls Canada home.

I wish I caught @thematthewshow 😞 But I did see the lovely @kittythatcorisca and my good friend @lusoloonie 💜
