Much love to @timrileytraining @apexathlete.official and what they brought to Miami! 💪🏾 Seeing athletes come together and put their abilities to the test brought back some memories.

Over 10 years ago, I had the chance to compete at @strengthcampofficial challenge. Shout-out to @elliotthulse and the Strength Camp crew for creating a space where athletes with different strengths and backgrounds could test themselves across multiple categories. That was a great experience to be part of.

I’d love to get out there for something like this again. A few more years on me and a torn patellar tendon have changed the equation 😂 but that competitive itch is still there.

Props to Apex for giving athletes a place to compete, challenge themselves, and see what they’re capable of. Love seeing it! 🔥#apex #strengthcamp #mb1 #hardwork #athlete

Anyone can jump, but a static vert test doesn’t quite replicate a game scenario. Here we have an unsuspected throw where @john_mcguire has to react, jump, position his body, track/catch the ball and accurately land. About 15 months removed from a patellar tendon rupture, and this is the part of recovery I find interesting.

Watch the recovering leg closely.

I can backpedal. I can perform the movement. But you can still SEE moments where that leg is a step behind—timing, control and output aren’t automatically identical just because you’re “back.”

Then I add another problem.

Four circles light up. I have to identify them, track them with my eyes as they move among 10 total circles, and find those same four again—all while continuing to move backward.

Now we’re challenging multiple systems at once:

Movement + visual tracking + attention + processing + motor control.

That’s much closer to how performance actually works. Your brain doesn’t get to handle movement, vision and decision-making one at a time.

It has to organize all of it at once.

Make the intangible, tangible.
