![Canadian-producer and musician, @MathewJonson, is no stranger to LIVE performance and on Feb. 29th, he takes the stage for an illustrious b3b performance with @SebastianMullaert and @TheMoleOK. Tix: bit.ly/CFLive2020 (link in bio)
âWhen you have over 20 years of experience playing with the same crew, nothing can touch that; it doesnât matter the skill level...When you can read each otherâs small music nuances and body language on stage, it is an environment that you just canât replicate working with new people. So, my dream accompaniment is when I play with my old band The Modern Deep Left Quartet (Danuel Tate and Tyger Dhula, who are also members of Cobblestone Jazz, and The Mole).â
Classically trained in piano and percussion, Jonsonâs well-connected musical family tangibly fueled his educated curiosities, propelling him toward stardom as a techno elite. By the time he discovered hip-hop as a teen, he was recreating its electro-based beats on his own rudimentary setup at home. âIf you look at my studio you know that I love synths. I come from a family of musicians and was raised largely on a mix of blues; folk and rock music from my fatherâs side, and classical and pop on my mothers. I grew up in Canada, so hip-hop and R&B from the US surrounded me as a teenager. I didnât find techno until later in life, so my influences are quite diverse.â

His first record, in 2001, was the first release on Itiswhatitis (a label he bought from its original owner 11 years later,) and 2003 marked his first appearance on Perlon, 'Alpine Rocket,â a track he recorded alongside @magikluciano during his first Europe trip. In 2004, he released track âSpeicher 26â with The Mole on Kompakt. Then, in 2005, he co-founded record label Wagon Repair and it's been a blur since; a nonstop series of tours and recordings, solo and with his Cobblestone Jazz bandmates.

âIâm a musician so itâs [LIVE] the best way to share my music with people. Itâs also a lot of fun in the studio creating it. Then to have the opportunity to take that and experiment with it on stage is really exciting. I feel really lucky to have people coming to my shows and dancing. Essentially they are what makes it live.â](https://s4.imginn.com/622718793_1848899182427463_5968308298170234949_n.jpg?t51.71878-15/622718793_1848899182427463_5968308298170234949_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e15_s640x640_tt6&_nc_cat=102&ig_cache_key=MjI0Njg2MDkzODY5MzI2NTgyOQ%3D%3D.3-ccb7-5&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=58cdad&efg=eyJ2ZW5jb2RlX3RhZyI6IkNBUk9VU0VMX0lURU0ueHBpZHMuNzIwLnNkci52aWRlb19kZWZhdWx0X2NvdmVyX2ZyYW1lLkMzIn0%3D&_nc_ohc=YItXMHxCfqgQ7kNvwFsy1Hc&_nc_oc=Ado9wy0ulh2Thy5kNzpl2dH1mSAu4RN4BuV3nvVI6h3jOcAL366f84HLj2_1S_K-LcXaRYBaM3qUUXE2en36UwnG&_nc_ad=z-m&_nc_cid=0&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw6-1.cdninstagram.com&_nc_gid=SoEIEtTo9brmpfTPMoigYg&_nc_ss=7a20f&oh=00_AQOffD1SJegLbmpQfW2Q_6wq7ZeP53a85mlYu05t16-6PA&oe=6AE588FA)
